Why would the range performance differ between a tree and a deer that is standing still.

Example: Tree range 570 yds. / Deer range 300 yds.

A tree has a larger area to reflect.  It it has shiny leaves, then even more so.

Effectiveness of laser in part depends on reflectance of the surface. The shinier the more is reflected thus the further distance it is usable. A Leica 1200 will work on black cows even to 1200 yds. Swaros at about 850, the rest loose about 100-150 yds. from their posted capabillity.
