I've got a Marlin 336 that I'll be using unscoped most of the year accept for hunting season when the scope would be reattached. That's one scenario, one scope one gun.

Second, I've got a .22 with a dovetail base that the scope from the 30-30 could work well on. Thinking if I used the same style of QR base for both guns I could use the scope year round instead of it sitting in a drawer most of the time.

Any recommendations? Scope has 1" tube diameter.

The B Square air gun adapter should fit the bill on your .22. You could then go with Weaver type rings for both. For some reason the hyper link is not working, but it is available through SWFA under mounts and then B Square.
Installing a 3/8 in. dovetail on the Marlin is something I have never heard of. So making the .22 base common with the center fire is the way to go.

Good luck,
Doug

See if there are any Warne Weaver style QR bases available.  I prefer the Weaver style QR setup with the Warne rings and bases.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the Leupold QR stuff but that would require me to get new basses and rings for both guns. I forgot to mention that I already have a Weaver base on the Marlin so the Warne rings would fit and I'd only have to get an adapter/base for the .22. The B-square looks a nice adapter.

Question, is the Picatinney style base basically a weaver profile with continuous slots or is there more to it than that?

Short answer is that there are slight dimensional differences; depending on manufacturing tolerances, Weaver rings will fit a Picatinny rail (AR Flattop as an example), but Picatinny rings may not fit most Weaver bases. Some guys widen/ deepen the slots in the base to get a fit.
I wish SAAMI would have forced adherance to one or the other as a standard years ago.
It's stupid to have two systems almost exactly the same, yet not fully compatable with one another.

You can have continuous slots with a Weaver. The slots are approximately 25% smaller than the picatinny cross slots.
Weaver rings will work with a picatinny rail. The picatinny specific rings will not work with a Weaver rail.
