Can someone help me with a mounting solution, I will be mounting an Aimpoint 9000L 2X on my Marlin 1895 using the XS scout rail but I'm not sure what type of rings and what height to use. Right now the ARMS #22 throw lever rings are my first consideration (but what height) I've mounted the rail and am waiting to purchase the Aimpoint (from SWFA) until I have more info. Thanks anybody! Also, I have a Mini 14 ULTIMAK rail brand new never mounted for sale $110.00 I pay postage.

Have you thought about using a weaver or picatinny mount, and aimpoints quick release rachet mount, and a good set of iron backups. (which you may already have?)

XS scout rail is a weaver/picatinny rail.  The crosslots are supposed to be wide enough for picatinny rings.

I do not have any experience with Aimpoint rings, but they seem to be a little too high for use on a scout rail, but Warne 30mm QD low rings would work well.  Generally, you want pretty low rings for this application.

most aimpoints app. I am aware with the use  of the devices in a rearward position and not in a "scout" set up reason for my confusion. aimpoints can be used in a scout (forward of the receiver) is this what your are saying?? if so the mount will need be higher. I use an Aimpoint quick release with a bushnell on an AK (now if I can find the damn camera).  A typical scout set up as below.

Thank you both. The XS scout rail is weaver/picattiny designed and already mounted on the rifle forward of the reciever! The AIMPOINT device I will be using is compatible with what I"m trying to achieve and will require the lowest mounting rings possible so that the ghost ring iron sights can be cowitnessed through  the red dot sight. What I need to know is SPECIFIC technical information (what height for this application) on quick detach rings. WARNE rings are an excellent suggestion and one I will look into. Thank you both again.

sounds like you got it figured out pretty good, but just for my information, why do you want to see both of them? , on the Savage scout above the scope is as close to the receiver as possible, and there is still no ghost from front site. I can understand wanting to keep the dimension to a min. the point of the scout is both eyes open heads up shot, not a cheekweld shot. In any case go to the warne web site and they can get you going, If not look at the leo QRW lever 30 mms.

Thanks again Dale, I'm not sure I understand the the terminology you are using. Cowitnessing is a concept predominitly used in military/law enforcement circles, it allows you to see and use the iron sights in the event your primary sights fail and there is not time to remove the optical sight. it may not be possible with the type of scope you are using on your savage rifle but should be on your AK variant if your rear sight is tall enough (compatible height) to clear the base. This is the standard concept with AR style rifles with Aimpoint and Eotech type sights.

ok I'm with you now-- different style of shooting as I'm not LE  and you are using a marlin Just a thought here---  if you use a higher front side blade and use a HVIZ optical fiber, (then raise the rear of course) you will be able to coordinate  the colored dot in the optical unit easier. This will give you more leeway in the mounts you have to chose from.

Exellent idea there! Fortunately that has been already covered, my marlin is a custom from Brockmans Rifles up Idaho way. I had them install there ghost ring sights of there on design. They are the best out there i've seen  and set up fairly high and have a tritium dot inserted in the front blade (pretty cool) but I still need to keep the red dot as low as possible. Check out there there website Dale.  Well now you now the whole story LOL. When all is done I'll try to post a pic for ya. Thanks for the interest.

Well got it together but can't seem to figure out how to post pics. It seems they are much to large to upload (over the 200KB maximum)

Host them HERE. It's our photo server that will automatically resize them to the correct size. Once you have it uploaded just copy and paste.

Posted pics, they landed in the photo gallery (thanks brad) Its the Black stocked Marlin. Wound up using leupold QRW rings and a nice gentelman at Aimpoint suggested the 9000SC 2X instead of the 9000L 2X, I took his advice and I'm happy for it. Probaly two weeks before I get to sight in. Enjoy lever lovers!

PS   Those are Buffalo Bore 430 grainers on the cuff
