Hello,

As soon as the distributors get them in, I will be purchasing a Savage Hog Hunter .308.

It's got open sights installed so I am looking to throw a quality quick detach ring system on it.

My question is, do you gain any reliability maintaining zero with a one piece system as opposed to typical 2 piece quick detach.

I figure there is the possibility of alignment/twisting issue with 2 rings, and since I will be getting a 1pc rail base I might have less issues just going with another 1pc integral ring system.

The problem here really comes down to cost, I dont want to spend more than $80 so I was looking at the burris pepr and others like it in that range but they are all cantilevered and very high up for ARs.  I of course want to get the 40mm scope as low as possible.

Does anyone have one of these pepr style AR mounts on their bolt gun?  Can anyone vouch for some 2pc QD rings that hold zero everytime?

Thanks.

I wouldn't go with the AR style mounts on an AR. The first thing that comes to my mind are these. They are 30mm only but you can get inserts from them if you get a 1" scope. They are slightly above your price range of $80 but well worth the extra $30 in my opinion.

I don't have any experience with 2 piece QD rings, so take that into consideration.
A one piece QD mount would be more repeatable on maintaining your zero if it's well designed and made. However, even that doesn't garantee that your going tomaintain your zero. All it will do is keep your zero within a couple of minutes from where it was when you took the scope off. This was demonstrated in a video by someone on Sniperhide, using a ADM mount. He established his zero, removed the scope, replaced it and fired another shot. The zero moved slightly each time the scope was removed and replaced (the actual test was more envolved than I described, but you get the picture).
I would think that if care was taken, you could achieve the same with QD rings, as long as you accept the fact that you must check your zero everytime the scope is removed and replaced.

Curious as to why you wouldn't go with an AR style mount (ie American Defense, Bobro) on a flat top AR?

Obviously rings will cut weight but i have to believe durability and repeatability would go the way of the QD or set screw mount like mentioned above.

If I went with the 2pc set of QD rings it would be these most likely...

That was my fault and a typo I was responding to the original poster for his Savage bolt gun. The mounts work great on ARs but I would not use them on a BOLT gun. Good catch Shooter. Sorry about that guys.

If he is using a 1 piece rail, then I see no problem with CFII's first suggestion; unless I'm missing something. I think the ARMs would be more repeataqble than the Warne rings, but I could be wrong.
