I just finished mounting my 1" Sightron on my Talley Lightweights.  I couldn't get the top and bottom rings to touch, so there is an approx 1mm gap between top and bottom rings.

Question: Are the rings suppose to touch and clamp down flush?

Thank you,

Sean

I just mounted a Zeiss 30mm with the Talley Rings & bases; and there will be a gap.

Also check your bases and make sure the rings are sitting flat in the bases. On the Sauer - Talley Bases there was one short bolt to fit in the farthest hole closest the barrel; whithout this the rings wouldn't engage properly and the gap will be greater than "normal."

Though again even with this correct there is a very small gap.

Thank you.

How tight is tight?  Do you stop until you can't go anymore?

I just bought a set of Talley's to use on my new monarch but I noticed that when I sat the scope down in the saddle its sticking above the seat apprx. 1.5mm I didn't clamp the scope down yet so it may seat properly then. This particular monarch is not the one that I'm going to mount on this setup so I didn't want to scuff it up but does anyone know if this is normal to see a gap on the bottom side of the one piece talley rings/mount for the encore?

This is vague

http://www.leupold.com/resources/MyInfo81/Answerbook/findans wers.aspx

but good to follow. Don't go until you can't stop anymore.

If you have a torque wrench Leupold recommends that 6-48 screws in a ring or base be tightened to 18 in.-lbs. and 8-40 screws be tightened to 28 in.-lbs. Windage screws on the rear ring of the scope mount should be tightened to 40-45 in.-lbs.

Wheeler Engineering recommends that base screws be tightened to 30 in.-lbs. Ring screws in aluminum rings should be torqued to 10-15 in.-lbs. and steel rings to 15-20 in.-lbs. The windage screws on the rear rings of Leupold and other such mounts should be torqued to
30-40 in.-lbs.

Be careful, steel screws will strip aluminum threads quite easily.

Just thought I'd share the good experience I had with Talley Mfg. I called them today and asked if its normal to see that gap and he said No that every now and then one gets out like that and he would send me out a brand new one today. They where extremely nice to work with, the gentleman never asked a single question he just simple said he was sorry and he'd send one right out. The thing is I didn't even order these rings directly from them nor did he ask. I purchased a set of Leupold QR over the weekend for these setup because I was concerned about the gap but to be honest they weren't what they was cracked up to be. They sit way to far forward and the distance between the rings is to narrow and this puts the hammer right under the eye bell. It's almost like they tried to use the same base for rifle's and pistols to save mfg. cost. When compared side by side I really liked the Talley's better in functionality and looks.
