Im new to rifle shooting despite experience with handguns and shotguns. Im looking for a scope in the range of $200-400 for a Marlin 60. It will be primarily used for small varmint hunting (squirrel, rabbit, etc) and target shooting.  Anyone have any suggestions or experiences? Thanks yall.

Welcome

I think a few others will chime in and hopefully back me up here.

I have a Diamondback and appreciate the wider field of view you get with them over most scopes with the same magnification range. For hunting a bit more field of view to pick out movement is always welcome.

Either scope would do what you're looking to do without breaking the bank.

+1 to both of those scopes.  I have the Weaver on my 22, and really like that scope.  I tested the Diamondback.  Nice scope.  My only complaint with it was the eyepiece was a bigger diameter and I was forced to get taller rings to use it on my bolt gun.  You won't have that problem with the 60, so either would be a good scope.

But right now, there is a great great sale on the Vortex Viper 2-7.  It will be a big step up in optic quality.  And cheaper than the Diamondback at the moment.

If I had a little more money right now, I would be tempted to get it for my 22.

You may want to consider an aimpoint red dot scope.  With prior shotgun/handgun experience you may find you like the red dot style better than traditional crosshair design.  I know it may not be optimal for target shooting but It will more than likely be the best for fast target acquisition and shooting small critters.  SWFA has an entire selection of them.  The 9000l or 9000SC and or C3 would probably make an ideal candidate.

These are a little on the stretch of your budget but I thought I'd throw the idea out there for you.
