Hi Guys-

I'm new to the forum and it's been awhile since I have attached a scope to a rifle.  I recently bought a marlin xt-22 (great rifle).  I found that weaver number 12 bases fit it and bought them.  I then got their mid height rings which looked and worked great but left my new simmons trophy 8 3x9 32mm scope in contact with the bolt of the rifle.  I went to the gun shop and all I could find were the detachable weaver rings in a taller height.  I bought these and put them on, however they will not entirely close around the tube. I'd say there is about 2 mm of open air between the plates where the screws attach.  I suspect this is not good but am not sure.  They claim to fit 1" tubes which the scope has but this is the result.  Any input and feedback would be helpful. Thanks - Dan

There will be a gap on these rings. Get a torque driver and tighten to 18 - 20 in/lb. If you over tighten it can cause damage to the scope. check out the following link

Yep. Gaps are normal. Do as 3 Tens suggested and welcome to the forum.

Another issue we run into a lot with these rings is, getting them torqued to 20 in/lbs without stripping the soft, flat-head screws isn't fun.

If you decide you would like some different rings, give me a call and I will be glad to help get you set up.

hey dillon- question on these rings(maybe its the scope) or maybe its neither....
I had it tuned in dead nuts at 50yards and went out the other day to shoot.  found that the detachable screws were loose so I tightened them... then found that I was hitting about 4 inches high with the same ammo I used to zero it( cci mini mag hp).  I have always had good luck with there ammo and the group was still less than a quarter dollar for 5 rounds.  The gun can shoot better than I can, do you think this is a product of the rings or the scope?  Even though I dont like these detachable rings they are weaver's and should be good.  Thanks for any help and feedback you can offer-  Dan

sorry forgot to tell the scope ( its a weaver trophy 3x9 32mm objective) not the best but i figured it'd be ok for a 22 - I have a couple of leuopolds mounted on my high powers and it doesn't compare but at 40 bucks it shouldn't lol

Hard to tell without being able to evaluate everything in person.
Have you taken it out again, after you realized it was off and tightened the rings? If so, what were the results?

Usually, if the scope is not holding zero, your shots will jump in a diagonal pattern, not vertically or horizontally. This is a usual scenario though, not always.

If you re-torqued the rings to a different poundage at all, it could cause your point of impact to change. My guess is, the detachable screws got torqued tighter than they were originally, specifically the front one, which pulled the front of the scope down causing your point of impact to be higher. Again, this is just a guess since I am not evaluating your setup in person.
