I am getting new scopes for many hunting rifles and I have always used leopold scopes in the past with no problems. I am thinking of buying some monarch scopes in african 1-4x20 and2-8x32 and 2.5-10x40 . I would like to know what John Barsness and anyone else thinks of these scopes for durability reliability and optical quality. John said he used one brand of scopes with good results until they moved their factory and then the results were poor. Was  that brand nikon that now has a factory in the Philippines. The scope I would be getting for most of about 17 rifles would be leopold vx-3 scopes in simular models. I can get monarchs for about 180 dollars less per scope so I could save some money if I put monarchs on some of my rifles instead of vx-3s on all my rifles. If the monarch is not at least almost as good as a leopold vx-3 then I will just stay with the vx-3.  I would also like to ask Mr Barsness how these scopes rate against each other in poor light conditions. The zeiss conquest 3-9x40 burris 3-9x40 fullview ll leopold vx3 3.5-10x40 and the monarch 2.5-10x40. Thanks for your help.

I have had exceptional performance with both the Jap and PI model Monarchs. No problems whatsoever.
For the money, they are a great buy and I would take a new version Monarch over a new VX-3 "mainly" because I cotton to fixed eye relief instead of the Loopy variable eye relief, which I found distracting.
I do like prefer the Leupold AO over the Nikon side focus though.

Many Nikon's bought and used and no complaints from this shooter to date, but that's my experience. Others may vary.

Welcome to Optics Talk! Glad your here. Be sure to check out the forum "search" feature for more archives chit chat about the Monarch and the VX-3. Both scopes have been written up in the Members Review Forum.

Thank you so much for your helpful reply. I got impatient wondering I would get any replies so I wrote another simular post asking Mr Barsness his opinion of these scopes because I have been reading his stuff for many years.I have another question for you. In poor light how do the following scopes rate from 1st to last. Burris fll 3-9x40 leopold vx3 3.5-10x40 leopold vxll 3-9x40 zeiss conquest 3-9x40 monarch 2.5-10x40 and the bushnell 4200 elite 2.5-10x40. I will ask this same question of Mr Barsness.

Out of those listed, I'd go with the Zeiss Conquest.

I own a Monarch in 2-8x32 and a couple of Nikon Team Primos. The little Monarch is a really nice little scope and one of my favorites. The Team Primos is quite good and rumored to be the old Monarch UCC rebadged under the Team Primos name. The newer 2-8x32 is slightly sharper.
