Guys,

just found this great forum and have a few questions.  They will probably be quiet familiar to you .. I read the archive but still am unsure about a few things ...  So please help.

First, I picked up a used (looked unused though) Rem 700 BDL in .30-06 for a price that I couldnt resist.  I want to use the rifle for north american all around hunting.

Originally I wanted a Leupold 4.5-15x40 VXIII because its compact ... Now I learn (am not a hunter yet) that 6x is really all I need and a 4-10 would be the better choice ...

Now my question is .. what is the lowest magnification I should have? Seems like thats more important as the max ...

I ran into the samplelist here and there are some nicely priced refurbished Zeiss 3-9x40 scopes refurb .. is there any risk of buying those refurb scopes or will the warranty take of any issues?

I am one of the Tasco scope victims (my son has it as a toy now) and this time dont want to save another few $ to end up buying 2 scopes ...

Also I was wondering if there are any issues about shipping scopes to Canada .. i remember thre was a law that prohibits export of scopes to some degree ..

Thanks!

Matt

For all around N. American hunting with a 30-06 I would suggest the best all around power to be 3-9ish.

Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40

Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40

Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40

No risk at all buying off the SampleList.com site.  The Zeiss Conquest refurbs have a transferable lifetime warranty just like a new one.

There is no law against shipping scopes to Canada.  Some scopes are prohibited from being exported but they are primarily military scopes.  We only do business in the USA however.
