Hey out there. Have been looking around at variable mil-dot scopes in the 4-16 power range, and have come across the Millett Gold Buck series with the 30mm tube. Trouble is, for the scope I'm considering - the Gold Buck 4-16x56mm, 30mm tube, mil-dot, side focus - there are two different models listed on Millett's website and catalog, model BK30733 and model BK30735, both with the same short description and retail price. The ...733 is listed under "30mm Main Tube" and the ...735 model is listed under "New Generation Target Scope". But nowhere can I find any description of what the difference is between the two. Is the ...735 model an upgrade to the ...733 one, and if so, what the heck are the improvements? Looking around the web (and here) I"ve found a street price diff of @ $100 or so - SWFA only lists the higher street priced ...735 model, which leads me to guess that the ...733 model is being discontinued/replaced by the ...735 one. Can anyone confirm that as well as what the actual differences are? How close do these Millett's focus, as close as 10 yds (as Bushnell scopes claim)?
I'm not completely settled on the Millett scope yet, actually was first looking at a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 mil-dot, or maybe a Swift Premier 4.5-14x44 mil-dot. Have to keep the cost as close to $200 as possible, and there aren't many variable power mil-dots in that price range - at least not ones worth spending money on (no way on BSA's, Barska's, NCStar's, etc).
How well do the Millett Gold, Bushnel Legend, and Swift Premier scopes compare optically and mechanical reliability/repeatability wise? Don't have much of a chance to view any in person around here, at least not the mil-dot models I'm looking at.
I'm looking at this scope for primary duty on a couple of old heavy barrelled .22 target rifles for paper target and steel silhouette shooting. It will likely also see some time on my A-Bolt II Varmint .308 rifle, to see if I can get the hang of using a mil-dot at longer variable distances, and prior to possibly investing in the high $$$ FFP mil-dot scope I'd someday like to drop on it.
Any help and thoughts appreciated.
