My wife and i both shoot 300 magnum,s and can,t seem to find a that last for more than a year.we have went though 10 scopes together and have paid from $300 to $500 for each one.In ayear or less they are toast. They all say that they will handle magnums but not very long.I find this rediculous. We have hunted everything from varmits to elk with these guns. Why should i pay double the price of  gun for a good scope?

Zeiss, Kahles, Swarovski, Burrris, Leupold, Bushnell Elites, Nikon Monarch, Weaver Grand Slams and many others should last essentially forever on a .300 Win Mag.

Would you kindly post the scopes that were used, and failed for us, please?? I'm curious..

which 300 magnum are you talking about. i cant see any 300 magnum punishing a decent scope, other than maybe that 30-378 weatherby, without a brake. look into leupold, burris, and zeiss. i really think a burris is the way to go for a long range hunting rig, becuase it can be had with the ballistic mildot, and its good for compensation out to 700 yards.

I would like to thank all of you for your replys so here is some more imfo.I shoot a weatherby mag.with a  30 inch barrel and my wife shoots a win. 300 win mag with a 26 inch barrel. They both have custom pillar bedded barrels,Adjustable triggers, and a muzzle brake.I have bought bushnell, nikon, redfield, and last but not least a leopold.I have other guns with these scopes and they work great.I just ordered a pair of burris  fullfield ll 6.5-20x50 mildot scopes.I,ll let you know how it turns out.

Good scopes much more ruged, brillant and reliable than cheap ones, so always buy the best scope you can pay for.For heavy recoil guns you can buy a burris with posi-lock. The european IOR 2.5-10x42 magnum-lock can handle a lot of use an abuse (I recomend it ).

Agreed....IOR is very tough. I prefer the "tactical" scopes to the "hunting" scopes. I have had both.

As I asked earlier, about your rifles having muzzle brakes, this could very well the source of your scope problems by the nature in which they reduce recoil. When muzzle brakes became in vogue, their were many reports of scope failure after the break was installed. There were also debates about muzzle breaks having a detrimental effect on accuracy. The jury is still out on that one, however, with some riflesmiths saying they do not effect accuracy and others saying they do.

The Browning A-Bolt and Browning BAR BOSS System definitely improves accuracy and act as a muzzle break. I makes the shots extremly loud though. I wish more rifle manufactures would offer something similar to the BOSS because it really works for me on the Brownings I own.

I'm not sure what the name of the device is called, but Savage has break that can be turned off or on. Very simple process. Long over due....

weatherby has muzzle breaks aswell, and i dont like muzzle breaks, becuase of the noise they put off. my thought on the matter is, if you arent he-man enough to shoot the gun without a break, get a smaller gun, unless you are a benchrest, or long range shooter, and absolutely HAVE to reduce recoil in any way possible, or you have a 50bmg, i dont have them on ANY of my guns, and i dont plan too.

Have you considered the possibility of it being the mounts?? I had that trouble with my 7mm mag, went through some very expensive scopes, come to find out my mounts kept loosening up. Just a thought. I use a leupold on my 8mm mag (very equivilant in most every catagory to the 300 mag) and have never had a problem. Course, living within 50 miles of the factory, and their replacement guaranty is unbeatable anywhere. (just don't use leupold mounts. They are crap. Have had best luck with redfield or weaver mounts)

what are you talkin about tony, leupold makes soem of the best mounts there are, and i find the weavers, and redfields to be crap.

It's muzzle "Brake" guys

FWIW: Browning now offers a BOSS system without the brake.

I dislike muzzle brakes and the added report. I messed around with a BOSS on a .300WM and did'nt find any benefit in it except that it made me flinch more.

I have a gripe with 's  who put brakes on .223 AR-15s just to simulate the look of a flash supressor.  Noise pollution! Thank god the AW ban is over.

amen, the only time i see the need for muzzle "brakes" is in competition shooting, and other time there is no excuse for them.

A person can make new friends really, really, quick when shooting a muzzle-brake equipped magnum calibered rifle off the bench on a populated range with a roof or canopy.

You'll think you smell once you look around and notice everyone has moved away from you.

well redneck...I have always loved Leupold quality of stuff. I may very well have gotten the only two crap scope mounts from Leupold in history but it understandably has shaken my confidence in their mounts, but not their scopes. I had one mount actually just snap off, a metal defect. The other one the mount screws stripped on one end and cost me a trophy mule deer at close range. Yeah, Leupold is generally quality, I just have a bad taste on their mounts. Once you lose confidence in something, well, you know how it is.

Hey Sako, gotta agree on the BOSS that Browning puts out. I had a 7mm A-bolt, shot 70 times and no bruised shoulder, but oh baby do they make the noise!

tony, something you might try, is leupold standard bases, and burris rings, they make a great combo, but i ussually stick with leupold for my rings/bases, unless its a tactical rifle.
