This past weekend was youth weekend in texas and walked back to my stand at 10:00 pm to get my phone.  While rummaging through everything , I heard some hogs in the brush.  After about 30 minutes the hogs came out to my feeder.  I proceeded to shoot a nice 200 lb hog by moonlight.  The shot was at 100 yards with a  leupold VX-1 4x12 by 40mm.  I could see the hogs good enough to hit the hog where I was shooting/aiming at.

Has anyone had a similar experience with any other type of scopes?  Specifically, being able to see through your scope at night well enough to shoot.

Welcome, Erich!

I hunt hogs at night quite frequently, and have shot them at varying distances in the dark (usually under a bright moon) using scopes of various optical quality.  Even though it is technically possible to hunt with a variety of scopes if the moon is bright enough, I've found that my higher-end scopes provide much better visibility at night, and my scopes with a well-designed lit reticle are even more deadly.  The more expensive optics really do provide a noticeable improvement in low light performance for the most part.

When it's moonlight it's sometimes that light that hardly any scope is needed at all, any daylight scope can make it sometimes.

But the big boars are not showing up in "half daylight" and has to be hunted other nights.

It's those other nights when quality optics is the most needed.
