Well i just spent the 160 bucks on a Prostaff through this site last night.  Ive been reading reviews online and im now second guessing myself and thinking i shoulda gone with the Buckmaster series.  Are the differences that significant in the two?  Ill be shooting in extreme thick wooded areas with low light even on the brightest days of the year.  The longest shot will be within 100 yards.  Apparently Cheaptrick favors the Buckmaster series of scopes which is partly to blame for my second guessing, always has good advice, too good sometimes.  Well my fate lies in everyone elses hands, my decision to drop another 209.99 on a Buckmaster will be determined with this thread.

Well, it would be easy for us to sit here and tell you to go ahead and spend your money on an upgrade, (in fact, we do it all the time! ), but unless someone who owns both scopes chimes in with evidence of a huge difference in quality between them you may wish to sit tight, at least until you can examine it when it comes in. You may be pleasantly surprised. Cheaptrick's opinions should always given extra consideration, of course, and for good reason.

I totally fouled up yesterday, my friend. When I first read your thread, I "thought" you were already considering the Buckmaster. After I posted and reread the thread and saw that you were considering the Pro Staff, I realized I missed it.....and deleted my stupid post....

I get a little kooky when I quote Shakespear....

There's a lot of people out there in cyber space who like the Pro Staff.

After further review....Ring up the Pro Staff and give it a go!!

my bro in law has one on a .270 and he likes it, its not as good as my buckmaster and far from the quality of my monarch. but its a good scope for 160 bucks

I have had a Nikon Pro Staff for 4 years and it has served me well.  I consider it better than the Leupold Rifleman series and close to the VX-II.  I have since moved up to Kahles, Zeiss and Swarovski scopes on most of my rifles and just swapped the Pro staff to a back up brush gun today.   That said If I had to hunt with a Pro Staff again, I sure as heck wouldn't stay home or feel extremely disadvantaged.  I have a Buckmaster, but it is in a 4.5-14x40 SF, nice scope can't say it's a heck of a lot better than a Pro Staff, but that is not an apples to apples comparison.

Pretty lady. Does she have a name??

What type of sling is she wearing??

Why are you wanting to swap out the barrel, if I may ask?

At first I didn't know what to think of this rig because I am somewhat of a traditionalist with my hunting sticks. Then it was, bam, what a cool stick. That stock looks like it is very stable for offhand, sitting or just laying it on top of a log.............................nice!

If that is a Quake Hush Stalker sling, I have one on my Remington .260 that I just mounted a Nikon on in the last hour. The two Nikons I bought were because of the good word on them here at O.T. and Cheaptrick is the Nikon man.

I believe Major John Plaster helped design that stock. Always wanted to try one out...

Well Trick, im wanting to swap out the barrel because the stock is built like a tank! Its a hefty 7 lbs and im still waiting for my versa-pod to get here.  The fluted barrel will drop the weight a little and give it a better overall appearance.

Ronk your absolutely right, this is the stock designed by John Plaster and is states it proud on the stock.  Again its built like a tank at 7lbs.  Its got one appearance flaw that ill post here in a bit,but its great feeling and should do great in the woods and on the firing line.  We use Mcmillan Stocks for our S.W.A.T team at work and they dont feel half as sturdy as this thing, and at a fraction of the cost.

If you look really close you can see the bolts holding the anscutz rail in place, kinda ugly.  This is looking at the top of the forend as it is free floating.

Here is a better look at how the barrel free floats.  The top is completely open as you can see.  Some other features you can see in the first photo are the rear elevation knob on the rear of the stock which will cant the rifle two or so additional inches.  The stock is equipped with an anschutz rail which in my personal opinion is one of the toughest mounting systems.  One pointless feature is the storage area in the pistol grip.  They say you can store 4 additional rounds or tools in there.  Maybe, but you have to remove the two phillips screws to get whatever you put in, out.  I cant complain though, the price is right and it requires only the ability to drop the barrel in and set in the two screws that hold the barrel in place.  The whole disassembly/ reassembly was less than ten minutes.

Trick i can see why you prefer the Buckmaster now that ive had a chance to use it.  Took it on a hunt today and the clarity is unbelievable for a scope of this price. Only thing that could have made things better would be if i saw the deer i was looking for.

I got a ProStaff, for 100 dollars 3-9x 50 not a bad scope, two piece design and the glass is ok, but overall not bad, especially for what I paid for it.

I'm recovering from that theft crap, and she's sitting on top of a 7mm RM Savage. I think it'll be a decent set up.
