I have a Remington 742 Carbine (18 1/2" bbl) that I have been shooting 55 gr of IMR 4350 out of behind a 165 gr Core Lokt. Muzzle flash and Loud. Sssssooooo........

I dug thru my reloading manuals and decided on a new load.

46gr IMR 3031

165 gr Core Lokt

CCI Large Riffle primer

WOW!!!! Talk about made a difference. The riffle is actually pleasant to shoot now and accurate within deer MOA. Barrel stays way cooler after running a full clip thru it and muzzle blast/flash has been reduced significantly.

Thought I would share. Enjoy!!

P.s. Manual states that 49gr of IMR 3031 is considered max.

The 165-grain Speer Hot-Cor  in front of 46 grains of IMR 4895 worked nicely in my older Model 742.  (See Richard Lee's Modern Reloading - Second Edition)  This was good for 1.5 inch three-shot groups.
