I am about to purchase a Meopta Meostar in 3-12x56 for a Tikka T3. they have two of the same but one is illuminated. I have never hunted with one like that. What advantages & disadvantages does it offer? Is it annoying and obstruct the viewed shot? Worth an extra $150?

great scope - illumination is good, but not necessary, IMO, if you get the #4 reticle.

i have a 7x56mm meostar w/ a #4 reticle w/ leupold rings for a tikka T3 - like brand new if you are interested.

send me a PM if so.

meostars are excellent scopes and worth every penny.

good luck.

If you are able to hunt past that 30 minutes after sunset there is deffinitely a very big differance betwen no4 and illuminated.

I have never used meoptas, but the better german/austrian scopes gains a lot on illumination for low light hunting, other scopes as all cheap japanese and chiniese stuff that i flooding the marked that i have tested have a illumination that is worse that worthless as it's to bright and not can be adjusted down enogh, same thing can be said about US optics and IOR, at least the models i have tried.

I found the illumination very helpful when viewing into deeply shaded areas also . Sometimes standard crosshairs almost disappear in some conditions . I could throw the dead spot on the kill area much faster and alot more accurate . Plus if you don't want to use the lighting just turn it off .  ----

I don't care for illumination on a hunting scope.  If I can't see a hvy duplex reticle, I probably don't need to be taking the shot.
