Found this site while looking for scopes.  Have a few questions and would like answers if anyone can help.

1st - undecided as to which platform it will go on either the 700 tactical line or savage LE line. .308 caliber

2nd - the scope price is playing a big factor right now.  I have around 300 to spend maybe a little more.  I am looking at the Barksa 10-40x50IR and the Millet 4-16x50IR.  I will be using the rifle to start off with hunting - some long and short shots but in early morning and late evening just as sunrise and sunset conditions.  Also the rifle will be used in competion in the next year or 2 after getting back into shooting shape.  Once I save up for a mega $$$ scope I will relook again.

I trained on a Leupold inthe Marines but really don't care for their cheap line.  More $$$ line yes.  I would like a var powered not a fixed power with at least a 44 or 50 mm obj.

Any help or other suggestion will be helpful.  I know you get what you pay for and am on a budget.  I should have the money saved for the rifle in a month and the scope is next then a new stock.

Danny

The really good bargain priced scopes are the Super Sniper 10x42 and the IOR 6x42 naturally the IOR being brighter and more money and more suitable for hunting.

I have both the Savage 10FP with 20 in barrel and a Rem PSS both in .308 and out of the box with no extra work I would buy Savage. If you have the time and money the Rem is a gun with amazing potential but my factory no frills Savage is quite a rifle for not much money, I even saw one the other day that has detachable magazine. Badger rings and bases are nice but spendy.

a stock ?

Another Marine, huh?

Wlecome.

I was out before the DM program.  I heard horror stories initially but things seem to have worked out since.  There are a few Marines lurking and a few 8541's.

I too would reocmmend the SS, it is orders of magnitude beyond anything in that price range.  Though it isn't variable, you will not regret the purchase.  If you've shot Leupold tacticals, much as they suck, Barska and BSA suck far worse.  Far worse!

Get the SS, and shoot frequently.

Welcome to optics talk.
