I AM TRYING TO MOUNT A SCOPE ON MY OMEGA AND WANT TO GET IT AS CLOSE TO THE BORE AS POSSIBLE.  I CURRENTLY USE A ONE PIECE WEAVER MOUNT, AND MEDIUM HEIGHT QUICK RELEASE LEUPOLD RINGS, WEAVER SYLE.  THIS SETUP DOES NOT PERMIT ME TO KEEP MY CHEEK ON THE STOCK.  MY HEAD SIMPLY HANGS IN THE AIR.  THE RIFLE IS VERY ACCURATE, BUT I AM CERTAIN ACCURACY WILL BE BE MORE CONSISTANT,  IF I CAN REST MY FACE ON THE COMB.   I CURRENTLY USE A 40 MM OBJECTIVE SCOPE, BUT WILL GO TO A SMALLER SIZE TO GET THE SCOPE LOWER.  ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RINGS AND BASES?

Hey man.

I use an Omega with the thumbhole stock and have two sets of QR rings for it and two scopes.  One is a 6.5-20x44 Nikon and the other a 2.5-10x50 Nikon Monarch Gold with 30mm tube.  I will check tonight to see how low they are.  Like you, I always try to mount my scopes as low as possible.  I had to take the front sites off.  That I remember well.  I have a Rem 700 in .338 and used to have a Leupold 2.5-8x36 on there with leupold Low QR rings and bases.  It came to my shoulder like pointing a shotgun and I loved it.  I removed it for a larger power variable and have always missed the cheek weld I had before.  I like the higher power though, so I guess everything is a compromise.  Like I said, I will check my rifle when I get home and get back to you.

I have an Omega and have mounted a VX III 2.5x8 x 36 on Leupold's standard mount with low rings and it works perfect ( 40 mm objective might be a tough fit )....Could also try one of Talley's one piece mount/rings setups.

I have an omega and an encore  with leupold quick release that WORKED GREAT FOR A WHILE BUT DID NOT HOLD UP.

I WAS convinced that this was the best system for this rifle.  This initially worked much better than it looks like it would, it returns to within 1 inch of 0.

If you get too close to the barrel you will have trouble cocking and lowering the hammer.

Urimaginaryfrnd I have the same setup for my Omega. When I installed the Medium rings it didn't feel like I had quite enough room to pull and release the hammer. Do you think the mediums are fine though?? Was looking to go to the highs.

It is probably better to keep the scope as low as possible - how the scope lines up with your eye (cheekweld) is more important. You can get the attachment for the hammer that screws to it and allows you to get a better grip. I will note that I was really happy with this quick release setup untill I had one fail recently. It appears that you can wear the system out.  Leu does make a blue dual dovetail and Burris does also in Nickel. I have been using the dual dovetail Burris mount lately in nickel which matches nicely with the stainless.

I'll have to agree with Urimaginaryfrnd, medium rings will be fine. You may need to get a
hammer extension, one can be found at Gander Mountain, Cabela's, or Bass Pro shops for 9-10
dollars. IF you go with high rings, you may max out one of your adjustments, and that is not
good.

I mounted a one piece base/ring set up on my omega and use a leupold VX-I 3-9x40 heavy reticle. it is the shotgun/muzzleloader scope. I went to http://www.talleyscoperings.com - www.talleyscoperings.com   and bought my one piece. they run from $52-$68 dollars each.  they have 4 different heights available from low, med, high, and ex high. they have low extended, med extended, and high extended and extra high extended one piece bases/rings. they have 4 different finishes as well from matte, gloss, stainless, and realtree hardwoods. I think you should look there first, they fit my omega very very well and I have no hammer worries. I have the medium on mine right now. the realtree hardwoods camo pattern on the 1 piece matches my omega stock which is also the realtree hardwoods pattern, and looks great !
