Get a hunting scope for that .338 and try to afford a mid range one if you can. Bushnells have short eye relief, in general. What is your budget?

My budget is around 200 for the scope and i spent 900 on the gun and so bushneil is better then barska wats so bad about barska ok thks more information to come

I would call SWFA first thing tomorrow and see if any 3-9x40 Nikon Monarchs are left. They are a hair over $200 and are an excellent scope for the money. They have plenty of eye relief and are very clear. They are in the same league as Bushnell 4200 and Leupold VX-III.  Good luck.

Yep, that's just about the best deal you'll find anywhere, noob!  I would jump all over that if I were you.  LIGHT YEARS better than any Barska or low end Bushnell (the Elite 4200 series Bushnells are a different story, though -- roughly equivalent to the Nikon Monarchs)!

In general, I would avoid brands like Barska, Leatherwood, BSA, NC Star, etc.  Every one of those I've seen have been cheaply made Chinese Junk.

Sometimes these ladies forget that everyone can't drop $1,000 on a scope at a whim.

Don't take the aversion to Tasco, Barska, BSA as anything but what it is: an admission that there are much better scopes out there.  After you've driven a Ferrari, the Ford Station Wagon just doesn't get it done; but if you can't afford the Ferrari, better the Ford than nothing at all.

Spend as much as you can, but leave some $ left over to shoot.  Nothing can repalce practice, not even good glass.

don't forget to spend decent money in the mounts - even a zeiss or swaro is a bad setup w/ bad rings.

Your probably not going to want to hear it ...

But ... If you spend 900 on a gun, why the hell would you bother with a cheap scope on top of it?  Do the right thing, and get a Monarch while you can, or get a Elite, VX II, VX III, that class scope, for it.  Monarch is the best buy going right now for top notch glass on here.

noob, be careful not to overanalyze this decision to the point you miss out on a fantastic deal.  Trust me, within your budget, the Nikon Monarch mentioned a few posts ago is your absolute best bang for the buck!  You'd be well advised to get it while it's still available.  You simply will not find a better scope at or under your stated $200 limit, period.

Huh? I thought everyone here pretty much answered him given his price constraint.

Just clarifying the "Barska sucks and so does Tasco and BSA" line.

But thanx for keeping me in line.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. My only experience with those three is Tasco. I can't complain, they didn't break and are serviceable.

I totally understood your analogy.

... but even if you only had $49.95 to spend -- at least when it comes to the BSA scopes I've used -- I think you'd be better off setting fire to that money!  At least you'd have a momentary heat source.  I honestly believe iron sights is a better option than buying one of those scopes, because at least the iron sights would be dependable.  One of my friends bought a BSA scope and asked me to accurize the rifle it was mounted on.  When I range tested it afterwards, I couldn't get both the reticle and the target in focus such that head hurt after 20 minutes of shooting that rifle.  Another buddy of mine bought 2 BSA scopes, and on the very first range session with both scopes, the reticle rotated with the power ring as soon as it was turned for the first time!   I agree some people can't afford expensive scopes, but at least you can get a serviceable scope for a little over $100.
