Hello everyone, I just bought a new browning a-bolt classic in .243 win and not sure which scope would be the best choice. I will use it mostly for punching paper but I want something i can still use for whitetail. I have been looking at something in the 4-14 range. I saw the new nikon monarch 4-16 sf, is it available yet? Any other suggetions would be appriciated.

unless you are shooting over 250yrds or so i wouldn't mess w/ the side focus too much.

but if you are set on up to 14 power, you may need it at longer distances.

i am old fashioned and a fan of simplicity.

for whitetail, i find that a 3-9x40, 44, 50, 56 is a great combo.  i am a fan of a bigger objective for lowlight hunting.

i would seriously consider the monarch UCC closeouts at http://www.swfa.com - www.swfa.com for the money, you can't beat em.

what is your budget? and what is the hunting terrain? open fields? lowlight? swamps?

i would suggest elite 4200, monarch UCC, meostar by meopta, or zeiss conquest.

i am happy w/ all of those products for the money.

welcome to the OT.

It will be used mostly for target shooting at longer ranges (200-300 yards). But I stll want it to be useful for whitetail at ranges under 100 yards so i think something with a low end at 6+ would have too narrow of view. I looked at the 4-12 ao monarch and ziess 4-14 conquest at cabelas last week and liked them both. I have a nikon on my omega and its a great scope for what i paid so i was excited when i saw the new ones on swfa. I wanted to spend around $500 but im in no hurry so I dont mind saving a little more.

I just purchased a Zeiss 3X9X40 conquest, and its on my Ruger M77 .243.  Its about all you need, and about 100 dollars under your quoted price.  Zeiss is hard to beat, especially at that price.

conquest is a great scope, but when you put them side by side w/ monarch UCC's and elite 4200's it is not as bright.

for the money (on sale at http://www.swfa.com - www.swfa.com   ), you can't beat the monarch UCC's right now.

well under your budget and very bright.

good luck.
