I own a Ruger M77 Frontier 11 with the 16.5" barrel.............This handy little 7lb. 6oz. unit w/scope is the perfect carry field gun! And, with one helluva wallop either for short, medium or long range hunting!!!!..............In a 300 WSM!!!!!!!!!!

the one I shot had to much blast for the 71/2 in barrel and the wooden grips needed to be replaced by pachymers, also ruger needed to strengthen the latch spring on the single shot swing out. your're not talking about the 256 hawkeye blackhawk? -- just kiddin

Yes I have one. Ipicked one up a few months ago. Haven't fired it yet. 7mm Remington Magnum. I've always wanted a Ruger model 77 but I just couldn't get past the polished blue metal and the "blocky" stock that the Mk.11 is famous for . Ruger really did it right this time. The stock has been slimmed down, the square flat edges have been rounded, gorgeous wrap-around checkering on the forend. The walnut is stunning, stained a deep, dark brown that really brings out the grain, a large improvment over the "reddish" color that I've seen so many times on the Mk.11's.(I think I'm in love!) The metal is an un-polished matte black color-looks GREAT with a satin finished stainless steel bolt handle. The Hawkeye comes equipped with Rugers new LC6 trigger. Seems to be very crisp when I dry fired it. She's a beauty!- I just hope she can shoot as good as she looks!   Bricat           p.s. I'll be topping her with a set of Warne rings and a Kahles KX series scope.

Hey Big Squeeze, Tell us a little about your hawkeye. Is it a wood or synthetic stock? What caliber did you get? Have you shot it yet? If so, how's it shoot? Scope, rings, etc...            Bricat

Hey pyro, Congradulations on your new Mk11. I hope you enjoy it. Will it be used for hunting or just target shooting? What caliber did you get?   Bricat

Hi there Bricat....................My Ruger is the compact M77 Frontier 11 (same action at the Hawkeye, but not a Hawkeye)..........16.5" barrel, laminated wood grey/black stock........I can either mount the scope forward of the action (scout style) or over the action. I chose over the action! However, I have the mount base that came with the rifle should I wish to put a scout style scope on it.......A Bushnell Elite 4200 in 3x9 is mounted on there using Ruger scope rings.......The caliber is the 300 WSM!..... My chronograph results show that I am losing only 4.3% in bullet velocity with a barrel 31% shorter than the standard 24".............Weighs in at 7lbs. 6oz. w/scope!....... For for the time being, the WSM`s are no longer chambered for this rifle due to pending legal issues according to Ruger............My dealer called me and said he had access to only 2 more in the U.S. in the 300 WSM. I jumped on it!.........So! I have a little compact rifle, 35 1/2" long, light weight, great to carry in the field, extremely accurate, short range, medium range, as well as excellent long range capability, you name it!........I can safely handload 150 grainers that average 3155 fps. and 180 grainers that average 2945 fps w/ no primer cratering. I will experiment a little further a 1/2 grain increase at a time..........The ballastic power that exceeds the `06 and maybe equal to, with handloads, the long action 300 Win,,,, w/ only a 16.5" barrel!!!!!.......Go to shootingtimes.com and click onto long guns or rifles. Scroll down to two articles written about this compact! It was also nominated for gun of the year in either `05 or `06. All of that, prompted my purchase! .........I love my "LITTLE" pop gun!!!!!!!!.............................Big Squeeze!

i went with a caliber for sentimental reasons, i went with a .280 rem because years ago when i was a little boy i remember asking my grand dad if he was going to buy a gun for deer and elk hunting what would you buy, he said well to be honest i think the .280 rem is a great choice so i decided to buy a .280 to add to the collection and for $450 brand new i could pass it up even though i really wanted to try the hawkeye, its going to be for deer hunting. so far all i have shot through it is factory fodder, i have loaded up some test loads to try in it but the weather hasnt been playing nice for the last two weeks here so i am hoping that will change soon.
