I'm looking at puting a scout type scope on my Marlin Guide Gun in .45/70.  The reason I am looking at the "Scout" set up is a want something with lots of eye relief.  I normally shoot some fairly teeth rattling loads a 405 grain bullet at 2000 FPS.

I am looking at:

Leupold FXII Scout Rifle Scope

Burris Scout

Both have a fair amount of eye relief. I have not been able to find other companies that make an actual scout rifle scope.  Would a pistol scope work? Would a pistol scope handle the recoil that hot .45/70 loads produces. Would a scope designed for a pistol not be "paralaxed" correctly at say a 100 yards?  Also what about scopes that are designed for blackpowder or shotguns????

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

AC

A 2x pistol scope would work OK.  Some variable pistol scopes have parallax correction (Burris 3-12x for example).

I would still suggest that you stick with the one of the two scout scope you list above.  They have slightly less eyerelef and more field of view than a comparable pistol scope would

I've had both of those scout scopes and they both work well.  Burris reticle is a little thicker, so I preferred that one.

As an alternative, there are a few regular scopes that have a lot of eye relief and would probably work fine:

Burris Short Mag 4x20.  I have one (still labeled Compact, rather than Short mag, but the same scope) and it has a bit over 5" of eye relief.

Leupold FX-II 2.5x20 has a lot of eye relief also.

from my experiences,  leupold has the best eye relief.  i have a 450 marlin with a recoil concern as well that i put a leupold on for that reason.  there are some here that don't care for leupolds,  or like something else for the money,  but that is only a realistic 200 yard caliber,  so the best optics aren't as serious a concern as in another situation.  i would go with the leupold.  just my 2 cents.
