welcome to the OT guys -

if money is no option, i would check out these brands:

schmidt and bender

swarovski

zeiss (diavari)

IOR Valdata

Kahles

and

Meopta Meostar line

if you got the money, don't mess w/ anything else.

what is the rifle going to be used for? we can narrow it down further.

thanks for all the help yall guys give me appreciate it very much. I'm getting ready to buy a thompson encore rifle in 7mm-08 or 308 or 25-06 havent decided yet which caliber I want. The gun will generally be used for hunting and target shooting. Figured if I was goin to buy long range calibers better have a long range scope for those instances when I have to reach and touch somethin. Appreciate any input.

not so much for hunting at all - shooting, sure.

if you want a hunting scope, refer to the ones above in my earlier post -

if you want to do some long range shooting, try a ballistic or mildot reticle.

What is you intended application?  Uses, needs, caliber of rifle, etc.?  In terms of optical quality and reliability, here is my opinion of the best scope manufacturers:

1) Zeiss VM/V

2) USO and S&B (tie);

3) Nightforce NXS;

4) IOR 35mm;

5) Kahles;

6) Swarovski;

--from here, there are a few other marques that deserve consideration such as Nikon Monarch (excellent), Burris Black Diamond or Signature Select (also very good), Meopta (from what I hear they use great glass) and Leupold (good but overpriced; great reticle selection).

For HUNTING applications:

1) Zeiss VM/V;

2) S&B;

3) Kahles;

4) Swarovski;

5) Burris Black Diamond;

For TACTICAL applications:

1) S&B or USO (tie);

2) Nightforce NXS;

3) IOR 35mm;

4) XOTIC (no longer being made?);

5) Leupold Mark IV;

---honorable mention Super Sniper (outstanding value)

For BENCHREST applications:

1) Nightforce NXS;

2) S&B;

3) USO;

4) IOR 35mm;

5) Leupold Mark IV

Do a search of "t-bone rating scale" for more opinions.  This topic was sufficiently covered in that thread.

Best of luck to you & let us know what you decide to buy.
