I've used them before, pretty decent quality. Supposedly just an upgraded (better seals & shockproofing) SPOT Mk.III (and the SPOT survived a heckuva torture test over at ARFCOM that left the host AR wrecked). Don't know if I'd use it professionally use but it seems more than adequate for range/competition use. HTH...

I'm a little leary of red dots that don't say aimpoint on them. Take the scope place it on a fixed object and move your head around behind the scope to see if the red dot remains on the same striking point or if it moves around. There are some very nice Trijicon tri-power scopes on samplelist at a bargain price, think I would feel much more confident with that or an EOTech or Aimpoint.

For serious use I agree; best to stick to a known/proven optic/mfgr (I prefer the TriPower myself which I purchased from the Samplelist). However, for range use or competition there are a number of red dot optics available that are much more affordable (the UltraDot, for example, is around $100 and has a proven competition record).

Gents

Understand the issue here.  Why would one choose the Trijicon over an Aimpoint?

The pricing is about the same.

What is a good choice for a mall ninja?

While the Aimpoint has exceptional battery life (50,000hrs in the latest models) it's still 100% battery dependent and must be adjusted for ambient conditions. Should the batteries, switch or circuitry fail for any reason whatsoever (and sometimes they do fail) the optic is 100% useless. The TriPower uses Tritium and fiber optics to provide reticle contrast under most situations (self-adjusting). The battery backup is just that; backup for those few instances when the tritium and/or fiber optics don't provide sufficient contrast. Should the batteries/switch/circuitry fail the optic is still usable in most situations. Both are excellent optics, you can't really go wrong w/either IMHO. Some people prefer dot reticles over chevrons or triangles or Eotech's circle/dot. Some people have astigmatism which adversely affects how they see one dot compared to another so personal preference plays a large role.

For a "mall ninja" who doesn't expect to use the optic in a life or death situation there's nothing wrong w/the Burris (in fact, I liked that the adjustment switch was on the left side where it's easily manipulated w/the off hand). HTH...

good poop on the sight anaysis.

I know the Aimpoint and Burris will cowitness my iron sights when mounted on my RRA Tactical Carry Handle.

Will the Trijicon do that?

Also own the Burris XTR 30 mm scope mounts, low (.25 inches high) which works with the Burris scope.

Do you know if the XTR mount will work with the Trijicon and the RRA mount?

The XTR mount is pretty hefty, wide with six scope mounting screws.

Thx, glad I could be of help.

The Tripower has a 30mm tube and will take any decent 30mm ring you care to use so I don't see why it wouldn't cowitness as well. What I'm using in the pic above is the Trijicon TX10 w/ARMS #17 QD mount made specifically for the Tripower. IIRC there are .25" & .50" risers available for it as well if it sits too low for you. If you'll measure how wide your XTR mount is I'll measure one of my Tripowers to see if there's enough 30mm real estate for it to fit. HTH...

Not China, I hope.

IIRC it's made in S.Korea by the same company that makes the SPOT Mk.III. The only difference between the SPOT & XTS-135 is the XTS-135 has better lenses, waterproofing & shockproofing. HTH...
