Guts, Ed posted on CH 10 hours ago, but I still can't get through.

Looks like we've worn out another coffee house, and we're gonna have to start over.

We can either start here, or start another thread.

Like General Roosevelt said when he found out that they had landed on the wrong beach on D-day, "Well, we've landed here, the rest will just have to follow us".
I say we start here.

Afternoon gents

Oh, and the thing about General Roosevelt landing on the wrong beach; if they had landed at the correct location, it may have turned out to be as bad as Omaha beach. It was almost as heavily fortified, and had an artillery fire control bunker in the middle of the beach that the a
allies were not aware of.

Press on.

My 12 year old granddaughter just got a positive COVID test. She and her 9 year old brother are now at home for a week. My daughter said the first thing she asked was if she was going to die! Damn government spreading fear throughout the country. Pizzes me off to no end.

Damn that sucks , Ric.

This fear mongering by the Government also has me POed. I think it's designed to convince the populus to rely on the Government for their well being.
While I'm no doctor, and the covid is serious, I think the risk to your grandchildren is low, but I would keep a close eye on them.

I have already mentioned elsewhere that last winter (2020) Meghan and her little boy got real sick and Meghan lost her sense of smell and taste, etc., but they recovered but were sick for a month!

Meghan thought it was the flu at first. Later she was convinced it had been Covid so she got an antibody test....(you have to jump through all kinds of hoops to even GET a freakin' anti-body test....like you have to have a note from your Mother testifying that you had it or whatever..)  anyway the dumb doctors couldn't find any antibodies but it had been three months back when she was sick....

Well, it took Meghan a month or more to get her taste back and later on her doctor told her she had a bloodclot! So she knows damn well she had it.

Also, while she was not feeling well she came down here to visit me and I didn't catch anything so I must be immune.

I lost my senses of smell and taste for over a month in Feb-Mar last year, before I knew those were symptoms of CV19.  Had a yearly checkup in May and Doc sent me for a blood test, test said I had not had CV19.  Whatever it was I had, I recovered easily and with no bad effects... had low-grade fever for a couple of days, sore throat for same couple of days, a little trouble with my exercise program... had to cut back number of rounds/days(went from 6days to 4days a week) and some intensity due to breathing, but back up to full strength in less than two weeks.  Don't know if I had it or not.

Mornin gents

Great weather here. Mrs BF has something and has been under the weather. I think she got a bad batch of death by chocolate ice cream. Anyway, I had to walk the dogs this AM, and the walk was great. Cool, nice breeze out of the north, and low humidity. The only downside is that with a north wind, is the landing aircraft for the port are coming right over my house on their crosswind, and that reminds me of the port.

I just got the stinkin shots and don't worry about it. Phuck their mask.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis Ric it does introduce some new complexities that can be a challenge. However 100 years ago it would have been a death sentence so we have to thank those scientists who enabled so many to live relatively normal lives. And that sore arm is a lot easier to take than shingles!

Getting old sure ainโ€™t a picnic sometimes.

Shingles is one of those diseases thatโ€™s a sneaky SOB. Those herpes virusโ€™ never go away, they just lay dormant in the nerve cells until a depressed immune system or something else sets them off and they resurface to kick you in the n*ts.

Well, my zero turn tried to kill me yesterday...

The damn gasline came out of the bottom of the right saddle tank, which was full.
As I was fighting it trying to re-install the line, gas ran down the lifted line and dripped on the exhaust.

It ignited and I turned into a human torch for about 5 seconds.  I was crouching at the time looking a the bottom of the tank.  My forearms were gas soaked so I lit up too.  I immediately dove backwards and saw flames following so immediately flailed and rolled around until I was out.  I jumped up and ran into the garage and grabbed the fire extinguisher.  Flames were a rolling by then.  emptied the extinguisher but gas was still flowing so I stood and watched for the 20 minutes it took for the VFD to show up.  I got some first N second degrees on my arms, legs and nose with a few blisters rising overnight on left knee and my nose...  I'm damn lucky it wasn't much worse...

???    Anybody want a bit of scrap  ????

Very lucky, bud....  A long time ago I had an old landlady whose grandson was burned to death in a lawn mower explosion in his garage in Houston. I did not know the fella, it happened before I met the little old lady.

Several years ago when I was working as a grounds man at that cemetery there was an idiot who used to fill up his weed eater with gas with a cigarette in his mouth....

Mornin gents

So Bud almost turned into a crispy critter.

Bud, I have to ask. Have you seen a Doctor about your burns? If you're getting blisters, you need to be careful of infection.

A few years ago, I was having an issue with the gas line on my Scag. Went to the dealer with the offending coupling, and they gave me a whole new line, including the valve assembly. At least I didn't feel like Redneck Repair Services when I was finished.

Terrible day to mow grass here. It's in the 60's now, no wind, and not a cloud in the sky. We're just cursed with all this bad weather.

That simplicity is actually one of the lowest seat heights available. I was concerned over this cause if trees I need to cut under....

Afternoon gents

It's Friday? I thought it was Saturday.

It's pretty much the same miserable weather we've had here for the last few days.
If it keeps this up, I'll have to mow the grass.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night. Once in awhile I have a nightmare that I am at a drilling rig and (in my dream) I discover that I did not check the drilling fluid yesterday! OMG! Then I go look to see if there's any mud product on location and I discover that I need a load of mud IMMEDIATELY!!

And then I wake up! It was all a horrible dream!

Afternoon gents

Just got back from my pistol club's annual meeting and man to man shoot off.
I'm just second class. I finished second in my class (B class) for the year, and I came in second in the man to man. The top 4 shooters from each class are in the shoot off in their class. Of course there are no trophies for second place.

Well I heard from Allstate about my fire claim on the zero turn.  I was dancing earlier.... I'm getting a check for more than the cost of the new Zero turn I bought.  I'm tickled pink!!!  Never expected that!!!

Do to the industrial nature of my ExMark It was valued at ~$13.5K  They only depreciated that by $6.5K, I got another $500 for the damaged sugar maple. then I have a $1K deductible.  So basically I used the Exmark for 10+yrs and then got twice what I bought it for when it burnt up.... I'm shaking my head, Happily of course!

The new Simplicity Courier XT is very nice and I'm loving it!  Still dancing over Allstate!!!

On an equally positive note, most of my burns are gone!  Only a patch on my right wrist and the tip of my nose.  My nose was driving me crazy as the tip had hardened from the burn.  I never realized how thick the skin is om the tip of your nose....  It felt like I had a coating of hard wax stuck to it. Once I peeling off that dead skin and keep Neosporin on it for 2 days it's fine.

My wrist continued to darken till it looked like a wine-stain birthmark.  Thats now faded by about half and I've drained the blisters.  No pain bit I'm leaving empty blisters on and protecting till underlying skin can mature...

I'm really kinda surprised I haven't experienced more pain. from the burns.  I'm being careful to protect them from infection.

I didn't think to take pictures of when the burn site was at it's reddest. These don't do it justice...

Good morning all!

How was everyone's weekend?

Lots of chores and got out for a bit of a walk here.

Also remounted my red dot on the 9.3 for the big bore match on Saturday.

Also need to get the red dot back on the Benelli for the slug match early in October.

Scrummy

Mornin gents

If Bud's yard is anything like mine, you can spend all day trimming branches. Then when you go to mow, there are more branches. They just seem to jump out in front of you.

There is always the weeping of trees that occurs with most winds.  I have trimmed but try to minimize it as I think shrubs and trees look kinda naked with their lower half trimmed....

The rule of thumb is you should be able to walk under trees without hitting your head. Pine trees are exempt.
