Why do you think Ruger pistols are so inexpensive compared to the other major pistol manufacturers?

My opinion, they are not as good.  My friends that own ruger pistols have lots of malfunctions with them.

You are forgetting Eduardo's ancient beginnings AND the fact that Thesaurus still lists revolver and pistol as synonyms (as do most dictionaries and encyclopedias).  BATFE defines them differently, as in this day and time is probably "proper".   At one time it was understood that ANY handgun (revolver or pistol) was a pistol.  Revolvers are a subset of pistols.
I doubt that that understanding will be eliminated any time soon.

I too, thought he was referring handguns other than revolvers. I don’t own any Rugers. I boycotted them for years because of Bill Ruger stabbing his customers in the back, but he’s dead now. They just don’t build anything I’m interested in. All of my handguns are either Dan Wesson 1911’s or Sig Sauer P220’s, to me, a modernized version of a 1911. Comparing a a Ruger SR1911 to a Dan Wesson 1911 will answer your question. Dan Wesson doesn’t use MIM parts. The parts that aren’t built in-house, are purchased from Ed Brown or other top quality builders. Every piece is hand fitted. Labor is expensive and it’s reflected when you purchase a Dan Wesson. MIM parts are used extensively in Rugers. Most other low to mid cost pistols use them as well.

I have one of their Mark III pistols. I found it to be a very nice choice for certain applications.

Have you guys ever noticed on the old movies (I mean REALLY OLD like 1930s-1940s ) that the English folks OFTEN say "he had a revolver " when the guy was wielding an automatic! Now I thought THAT was weird!

So....you guys are telling me that calling a revolver "a pistol" is POLITICALLY INCORRECT!!? ( Actually I don't call my revolvers "pistols" but I did think this thread was about Ruger HANDGUNS.)

Loco

Nevermind.....

The Outlaw Josie Wales... carried two 1847 Colt Walker revolvers... but in one scene...

Nice... I've had my hands on one, never fired one.  Feels good, proclaimed to be very accurate.  Only Ruger pistol I currently have is a Mark IV .22.  Super accurate, easy to clean... it's my wife's but I like it a lot.

Rugers Smith and Wesson and Springfield Armory pistols seem to be about moderately priced. When you go to higher quality guns like H&K, Sig Sauer, etc they cost more but seem to be better machined. Any additional time spend building anything adds cost.
