For my next rifle scope I am considering these two scopes at the moment:

Nikon Monarch 6.5- 20X with target dot

Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X with target dot

The scope will be used on either of two .223 Vamint rifles - a Savage 12BVSS or Remington 700 LTR.

The Nikon costs more but has target style adjustments and a slightly larger objective. Optical clarity and sharpeness are important to me as well as ability to maintain zero. I have an older Leupold Vari-XIII in 6.5-20X 50mm and it will go on one of the rifles but need a second lower cost scope to go on the other.

Are either of the scopes comparable in optical quality to the Vari-XIII? At the moment the Savage wears a Weaver V16 and the 700 is scopeless as the Leupold was sent off for  a reticle change.

I like Burris Signature Selects or Black Diamonds for varmint rifles,

In my opinion they outperform the Monarch and Grand Slam . The

Grand Slam bieng the worst. -

Try Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40.

It has better glass than all of the above.

Oh, and all of the above have better glass than Leupold VariX-III.

The 4200 has better glass than even the VX III but I like burris for the total package and the price,

when glass is the main feature considered then honestly none of these scopes mentioned will do in my

Between the two, Monarch.  I would take the Elite 4200 if you look at other offerings.
