Hi all!

I'm currently in need of a scope mount for my newest precision AR build!

The scope I'm looking to mount is an Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56. I just got the scope, but I did a test fit in my Primary Arms Deluxe Extended Scope Mount (http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-deluxe-extended-ar15-scope-mount-30mm/p/padlxsmext/) and the primary arms mount puts the scope too far forward for me to shoot comfortably at any magnification.

Requirements:

  • Picatinny mount (it's going on an AR platform)
  • Must be able to clear the monolithic top rail
  • Priced for a college student :D (I need to stay UNDER $100)

I am leaning toward a Warne Gen 2 - 1 Piece Mount: http://swfa.com/Warne-MSR-Extended-Skeletonized-30mm-Mount-P81564.aspx

Questions I have:

  1. Will this mount fit my scope on the top rail?
  2. Do I need the 20moa base? (95% of shots are 100-300m, 5% out to 600yards)
  3. Is my math correct in reference to above? (see below)

Math: The scope should have enough internal adjustment for 600 yards. Correct?
  • 600 yard bullet drop with 100 yard zero (5.56/.223) - Depending on the ammo/load is ~100 inches
  • 1 mil at 600 yards = 21.6"
  • Bullet Drop @ 100 yards = Less than 5 mils

First off, drop the "inches". You have a scope that has a mil reticle, and has adjustments in mils. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to convert that to inches. Go to JBM ballistics, and figure out your drop in mils, then figure out how much your scope has. Go from there. Most likely a flat base will work for you.
