looking for scope recommendations for my new rifle.  the rifle is a Remington 700 5R in 300 win mag.

will be used to shoot steel at 1,000 yards- mile.    like to find a variable power scope with 50 mm objective lens.    like find something up to $600.     love to have a nightforce but its lil out the budget .

recommendations?????

On a $600 budget your really limiting yourself.  The bare minimum I would put to use for going out to a mile -

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-HD-5-20x50-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P51653.aspx - http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-HD-5-20x50-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P51653.aspx   @ 1299.95 its over twice your budget but will theoretically get you there.

If you are capped out at $600 this is the only one I would recommend -

Have you ever shot at those distances before? Have you already got your base, rings, etc?

Just be realistic on goals and expectations and you'll enjoy shooting much better.

The Classic (non- HD) version of the SWFA SS 3-15X42 runs about $670. It is FFP, mil-quad reticle, SF and .1 mil turrets, and tough as nails. That is what I would get.

I have shot quite a bit at a 1,000 yards I have a Remington 700 5R in .308 that I take tactical long range shooting classes.   I bought the new 300 win mag 5R to help it reach a mile.   theres guys in my class with $129 scopes hitting a 1,000 yard as good as some with $3,000 scopes.   I know its hard to be a nightforce or a us optics or  smitch and bender but the funds right now wont allow that kinda cash.

my 308 has a bushnell tactical elite 4200 in 6x-24x50 and it does decent for me at 1,000 yards but ive scoped the target at a mile and it wont work for me well at least my old eyes.

was looking at 2 scopes one was the vortex viper pst the other was a hawke sidewinder 30

both seemed clear to me ( not nightforce clear ) but pretty good for price.    any reviews on these??

Never had any issues with vortex pst's that I've had.
