Hi folks,

Well, it has been about 2 years in coming but finally my 257 Roberts build is done.

24" Lothar Walther Barrel
FN Supreme action converted to a Win M70 style safety
Timney Trigger
Restored FN Stock
Swaro 3-12x50 Z4i
Loving the FN butt plate (OK I have a small thing for FNs)
Lawrence Precision Titanium Moderator

Anyway, I shall try and connect with a fallow, roe or fox on my next foray...

Currently got some 117gr Sierra GameKing BTSP and 120gr Nosler Partitions. Will have to look at developing a good 100gr combined deer and fox load for some more flat shooting

ATB,

Scrummy

Like I said in my email Scrummy I hope she shoots as nice as she looks. I'm sure it was worth the wait.

Nice shooter. Speaking of fox, why do y'all seem to have so many?

Sweet looking rifle and your "Fight the Noise" can!  Waiting for a can over here is like y'all waiting for a rifle.  Well, almost!

I once had several .25's.

I used the 100 Barnes Bullet - tipped and hollow point triple shock, 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tip.

Killed all sorts of game and varmints (vermin?) up to 400 yards. UK foxes are probably like small size coyotes (canine varmints indigenous to North America that max out at 60 pounds but usually weigh 35 or so pounds).

A good practical caliber - can't argue with success.

If you can get it Re. 19 works well, H4350 also -- Roberta should produce over 3000 fps out of the strong FN Supreme action - I have 3 of these, 2 with Timney triggers, in 6.5mm, 7mm and .30 caliber and admire them each time I get to shoot them.

I prefer 100's over 115's and 117's and think 117's are close to maximum length for stability out of a 1-10 - check your twist rate!

Thanks folks:

Foxes - Most of the UK is farmed for sheep and there is quite a lot of pheasant shooting so the foxes do incredibly well for food. Also there are no bigger predators such as wolves, bears or coyotes to keep them in check.

Moderators / Suppressors - now the norm in the UK. If you apply for a rifle without one, you get asked if you've forgotten to ask for one...

Varmints = vermin. Yes I'm hoping to get some 100grs working for varmints and deer (Not worry and just shoot whatever steps out). So thinking the Nosler BTs or maybe a 100gr BTSP. I do quite like BTSPs... If the 117grs won't stabilise I shall pull them and reuse the brass for the 100gr project.

FNs: I do like them. My first centre fire rifle was a 9.3x62 FN Commercial. Got it for hunting wild boar when I lived on the continent. Love that thing!

ATB,

Scrummy

Sent from the gunsmiths zeroing session this morning.... I'd better work on my marksmanship fundamentals. Coin is penny...
