Go Bronco's.

I think Scammer and Co will level the Bronco's, but I'm pulling for a win in what just may be Manning's last game. Sad to think about. I've watched PM since he was a freshman at UT.

Saying "it seems like only yesterday" when this gangling kid of Archie Manning was slinging it around the SEC is so cliche, but it really does seem like days, not years.

All the best and good luck!

I just hope it is a great game, everyone comes ready to play their best.  I like Cam Newton and he has a great team behind him.  I also like Payton Manning… never been a Broncos fan, unless they were playing the Redskins.  However, now that the Redskins are my number 2 team after the Cowboys, I've got nothing to cheer for the Broncos for.
On Paper… it's a great game coming up.  We shall see...

No doubt Cam's been great when it comes to kids. Why the heck he had to say "I'm an African-American Quarterback that might scare a lot of people." is beyond me though, maybe there's been a better explanation since I watched First Take yesterday. Go Payton!

I think there's a dark side, (no pun intended) to Mr. Newton. I've followed him since he was a freshman back up to Tim Tebow at Florida and he's had some "issues".

One involved a stolen lap top....which he threw out a window when cops came looking for it. 3 papers were allegedly "stolen" by Cam as well, which led to his dismissal from UF.

Fighting with team members at Panther's practice.....the pouting when he loses....the distance he keeps from team mates on the side lines during games....and the "you must be a racist if you don't get me" the other day.
A reporter questioned him on it away from the usual Charlotte media suck up's and he didn't want to talk about it. Accused the reporter of having an "issue".

I left out the infamous MSU deal before he went to Auburn too. We shall see. Everybody in Charlotte loves him and he's a GREAT athlete, no question.
As far as what kind of person he is....I think that came out loud and clear at the presser the other day.

Not a very exciting game really.  The Denver D was very good and won the game.  Not much in the way of offense on either team.

Very disappointed!!!!!!!! Expected a close game but decided to skip the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Too much error for the caliber of play up until tonight. Bronc's did what you have to do with a one man team. When they stifled Cam's game they took away their momentum.  Never liked the bronc's but have always admired Payton Manning. He is one of the greats and always carried himself with integrity respectfully. For his sake I am content with the game.

I agree, Mike. Manning had a VERY average day, but in fairness, the Cat's defense is solid.

Cam Newton is a POS. He was Tebow's back-up at UF ... and was dismissed from school for stealing a computer and lying about it. He threw it out the window when the cops showed up.

I'll never forget him backing out and failing to go for the fumble late in the game. Thug trash.

Yeah, when I saw that happen I thought what a freaking pussy.  All he had to do was fall on the ground.  That could have changed the game for them.  The great QBs were not afraid to take a hit for things like that.

I have NO white guilt… football players are people… flawed like everyone else.  I like Cam, I like his swagger, I like the way he treats and talks to kids… even about his "bad" days.  He just came off a terrible loss after thinking he and the Panthers were invincible.  I can overlook some things.  However, I don't really care about Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, MIchigan, Ohio State, Clemson, etc.
I saw a lousy football game, both teams (excluding defenses… they both played pretty well), that was supposed to be a Super Bowl, and the losing quarterback (who called himself Superman) turned out to not have a very good way of expressing himself… no comment on reasons.  He's done some stupid things, he's also tried to improve himself.  Manning has done some stupid things too.  In MY book, nothing that rates any worse treatment than Cam Newton… but not any better, either.  Manning is no hero, either.
They are football players, privileged and flawed, probably more so due to the privilege extended to football players.
In the grand scheme of things, Cam Newton's comments are not going to make a whit of difference in the world.  I still like him… as a football player… doesn't go any deeper than that.

If you like defensive games it was a great game, most like high scoring circuses so they were disappointed, even more so if rooting for the Panthers. Defense wins football games and Denver's D was better.

Both offenses were "unimpressive", to say the least, and not merely because of opposing defenses.  As I said, the defenses on both sides played well and the Broncos shined.  Most of the Broncos inability to run away with the game came from no effective offense.  I certainly don't look for "offense circus" in a football game, just professionalism and execution.  Panthers' offense was both overwhelmed and amateurish.  It just wasn't a very good game, at all.

I almost switched sides on the first play of the game when I saw a defensive (Panther) player give Manning a totally uncalled for push that sent Manning to the ground after the play was over... it was never replayed and no penalty called.  Very poor sportsmanship.  At that point I thought "so that's how it's going to be".  And it was...

Next year, I hope it is the Redskins vs the Patriots...

Oh yeah...Cam is a great role model for young boys. The mother, (they are not married) of his child, "Chosen", is a stripper. I didn't say "former", though maybe she is. Call me old fashioned, but I'd try to persuade my young son to find another idol if I had one.

The pre SB presser here in Charlotte when he took a dump on live TV and called everybody racist who don't like his antics and stated "we ain't seen nothing like him before", was WAY out of line. Way. I don't root for anyone that embodies those sentiments, Dan.

Look, if you want to cheer on Cam, be my guest, Dan. He is a great athlete, like I've said constantly, and a great entertainer. At the end of the day...that's what sports are. Entertainment.

I'm moving on and looking forward to college football season. Good day and God bless you and yours, Sir.

That's the problem I have with Cam, he brings the spot light on himself all year long talking smack and dancing in the end zone after every touch down he made, basically taunting the opposing team but using the excuse that it's part of his culture. Things don't go his way, doesn't like the reporters questions, then says people are afraid of the African American QB. He looses to Atlanta and pouts, looses in the SB and not only pouts but suggests those against him are racist. Yep, great role model for those who love to pull the race card as an excuse for their own failures or short comings.

This Superbowl was certainly lacking in offensive fireworks, which made it less exciting for a lot of fans, but I enjoyed it. If you're a fan of excellent defense, it was a good game. One of the biggest reasons there wasn't a lot of offensive production is because both teams' defenses played lights out. Denver had the #1 ranked defense in the league this year, and Carolina had the #6 ranked defense. I would much rather watch a Superbowl like this that's at least competitive than a blowout, where the game is essentially over by halftime.
Examples: SB20 in 1986 - Chicago 46, New England 10, or SB24 - San Fran 55, Denver 10. Now THOSE were what I consider "bad" Superbowls because in both cases, one of the teams was never in the game.

This Superbowl was unique for me because I like both teams.

Denver has always been my #2 favorite team behind Dallas, but I finally had enough of Jerry Jones several years ago and hung up my Cowboys fanitude. So Denver is my favorite team, and not just because I like Peyton Manning. I also like Gary Kubiak, Von Miller, Demarcus Ware, and Wade Phillips. Kubiak was a star QB at my alma mater (A&M) and Miller was one of the all-time great LBs at A&M as well. Both are from Texas, as is Wade Phillips. I always liked and respected WP's dad, Bum Phillips, and after all his years of coaching, it's good to see his son get the recognition he deserves for being such a great defensive guru. Demarcus Ware was one of my favorite players when he was with the Cowboys, back when I still had the slightest flicker of interest in the Cowboys.

I like Carolina because my new employer's headquarters is located in Charlotte, and I spent so much time in Charlotte this fall that I kept up with them and watched their games. They were an exciting team to watch.

Overall, however, I feel the same about Cam Newton as Mark. As Mark once said, "I've tried to like the guy, but he just won't let me." He's definitely a fantastic athlete and is fun to watch. He has connections to my current hometown, as he played at Blinn College here in Brenham, TX, where he won an NJCAA National Championship in 2009.

I just can't stand when someone throws out the race card and wears the "victim" mantle when it isn't warranted, as Cam did. He had no reason to stoop to that level. He's living the American dream, the star and face of an NFL team that had a great season. The folks in Charlotte love him. He's a success story, demonstrating how perseverance pays off. He gets paid millions to play a game and live a life most can only dream of. He's anything but a victim. Then, he acts like a spoiled kid when he loses a game. It's part of the job. I get that he's fiercely competitive and doesn't like losing. I get that losing the SB stings, especially when he had a bad game. I get that he didn't like overhearing Denver CB Chris Harris on the other side of a room partition, telling reporters how they'd planned to shut Cam down. It's understandable that he'd be upset about it. However, Cam goes to a press conference wearing a hood over his head, halfway covering his face, slumping over so one can barely see his eyes, and acts like it's a huge imposition to even be there. He gives one word, smartass answers to questions, showing disrespect to the fans and to the game. He acted like a child whose mom didn't buy him the toy he wanted. He's a professional, and attending post-game press conferences is part of his job, a job he gets paid millions for. As the leader and face of his team, he should show class and good sportsmanship, and he should embrace the responsibilities placed on his shoulders for being a leader.

I like the attention he pays the kids. I like the fact he shows he's having fun on the field. I don't mind a little dancing and showmanship on the field, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I don't like over the top arrogance. I don't like race baiting. I don't like a misplaced sense of entitlement.

I'm sure Peyton Manning has had his share of misdeeds in his life. Most of us have done things we're not proud of at some time. The difference is Peyton has been in the league for 17 years vs. Cam Newton's 4 years. During that time, not only has Peyton become a legendary player, putting up Hall of Fame stats, but he's shown a lot of media savvy, has demonstrated a likable personality, good sense of humor, and a sense of humility that connects with fans. Sure, there have been times when he's shown his azz, literally and figuratively. He's had his moments when he didn't demonstrate good sportsmanship. If the incident in college is true, that's not a good reflection on him, but that was a long time ago and none of us were there. I certainly hope people don't judge me today based on my actions in college when I was 19 years old. Whether good or bad, Peyton gets a pass on his negatives because he's also done plenty of good on and off the field, and he's earned respect over his 17 years in the league. If Cam Newton is in the league that long, continues playing the way he has, gains some humility and media savvy, and loses the victim mentality, he too will some day gain the respect Peyton Manning has earned.

Just to be clear... I fully believe Cam Newton IS a spoiled brat... acts like many of the spoiled brats we've seen in "professional" sports in recent years.  He HAS modified his behavior, somewhat, and has been working well with kids, telling them to not make the mistakes he did.

What Manning did was as inexcusable as anything Newton has done.  He's had longer to "turnaround".  Newton doesn't get a pass, he acted like a child... spoiled child... but I don't think he needs to "hang" over it.  I have confidence it was a learning experience and he will come back better and stronger.  If not, he won't last very long.

He has?

What faux pas exactly did he take responsibly for and warn the "yute's" against?? News too me, but I have to tune out the 24/7 Cam TV the local television stations have going on here in my AO, so maybe I missed it.

I've talked to people here in Charlotte that have met Cam and to the man...they claim Cam was very gracious and approachable. He happily took time out to take pictures with them and signed autographs. Giving footballs to the youngsters is awesome and should set an example for the rest of the league.

He took full responsibility for the theft of the infamous laptop, speaks to "at risk youth" about it, tells them to not make his mistakes, but do better.  Says he was fortunate to have gotten another chance.

I never thought I'd see the day when someone would think I'm "in the tank" for a former Tenn Volunteer, let alone..... P. Manning. This is getting surreal.

Oh Lord....I'm out.

When I was in high school, I mooned a bus full of pep squad girls / cheerleaders as they were headed to an out of town football game. I got suspended from school because of it.

Imagine the distress I feel to discover there is now no statute of limitations on stuff I did as a teenager, and my character grade will forever have an asterisk by it! I sure hope nobody checks into my middle school history; I could lose my job!

Keep in mind that CN's laptop theft incident was only 7 years ago, while PM's azz exposure incident was something like 20 years ago.

Not to mention the fact the CN character issues per this discussion still have that "new car smell" to them, up to and including this week.

Let's not forget that Manning's LAST payoff to the female trainer for that "boys will be boys" event where he pushed his crotch in her face (clearly sexual harassment) that was witnessed and witness told him he was wrong and should not have done that (first payoff was for $300,000.00, second was in 2003 for an undisclosed amount) was in 2005.   And HE is the one who continues to bring it up.

Newton is no saint, 7 years is a pretty long time, childishness sometimes lasts forever...

Ask Peyton Manning (“What’s weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth,” he said. “That’s priority number one.”)... not really world class role modeling...

Football players, they are not heroes... almost NONE of them (Roger Staubach and Rocky Bleier, a few others, maybe excepted), most of them aren't even very good people.  Just good athletes who make a lot of money.

So, we're doing the classic "justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior" routine?

Or, is this an attempt to hang a "gotcha" on somebody for supposedly giving Manning a pass while berating Newton?
In the process, you buttress same with an article whose main theme was clearly not about Newton or Manning, but instead was "see, sports fans, I told you; you're all a bunch of racists!"

Speaking for myself, I ain't looking for heroes; I just want to be entertained. Even heroes usually have some skeletons in their closets somewhere. We're all imperfect human beings.

Hey, it's cool if you're a Cam Newton fan. I don't want to try to persuade you otherwise. Some of us here are just explaining why we don't care for the guy...if that's o.k.

Drive by moonings were pretty much a nightly occurrence where I grew up.  Guys did it, girls did it.  Just the norm.

Seems to me t-bagging someone is a bit more than harassment.

All this crap is why I can't stand professional sports.  Very few of these guys should be role models, a lot of them are turds plan and simple

Absolutely not… just saying that Manning is no more "worthy" than Newton… both need work.
I said, I like them both… with reservations.
