There is a specific reticle currently only available on the Leupold VX1 2-7x33mm scope that I'd like to have installed on the same scope but in a VX2. The spec differences I see online is the VX2 has 94% light transmission compared to 92% on the VX1. The VX1 uses Multicoat 4 coatings whereas the VX2 claims "Diamond coat and have blackened edges" (whatever that means) and the VX2 also has 2nd generation Argon/Kryton filling for protection against fogging from rapid temperature changes.

I talked with Leupold today and for $70 I can get the XB1 reticle that I want installed in a XB2 scope. Will I see any real noticeable difference between a XB! versus a XB2 as far as low light capability and/or clarity?  Thanks.

I don't have a VX1.  I have an old varix 1 and I have a couple VX2s and a couple VX3s.  They VX3s are better than the VX2s.  You can see it at all lighting conditions IMO and especially in low light.  I would assume the VX1 to VX2 diff would be similar.

In my opinion yes and differences continue up the line to the VX-6.  Whether the difference between the VX-3 and VX-6 is worth the money becomes a matter of use and opinion.   The difference between the one VX-1 I own and my VX-2s is noticeable and in my opinion I would recommend spending the $70.  My VX-1 came on a used rifle and is adequate for intended purposes but it is not a Leupold I would normally buy.
