Been awhile since I've been here but I have a ? guys. Is it legal for me to transport a scope or laser rangefinder to the Philippines? Wife is Filipina and we have gotten into rat and frog shooting/sniping with airguns there and it would be nice to be able to take a few of these items over there for personal use. It's hard to find out the legality of this stuff. Thanks!

The rangefinder is a definite NO! As far as a scope, depends on who you talk to at the State department. Safer to just say no. So many Scopes are made in the Philippines one would think you could buy one there for much less than here if they are legal for a civilian to own.

thanks guys, yes CT many models are made in the PI. Interestingly i have taken optics (even 2 lasers now) in check-in baggage, and the TSA said it was OK. They just issue you a form for it to write down model #'s etc.

Part of the problem is there's little info available (or at least hard to find) that lists each item you can bring.

I don't believe foreigners are allowed to have firearms.

The government is a many tentacled  entinty. One hand does not know what the other is doing. TSA is not the governing body over export sanctions. It is the State department and Customs. What passes one day can get you 20 years the next. If at the least many years of legal bickering. Before using any internet information, contact the state department and ask for clarification for the questionable items you wish to transport. Get it in writing and carry this document with you. Good Luck.

I have been doing just that 3T--great suggestion though. It's hard to get ahold of them--am still trying though.

Ed--I don't own them--I buy them for my nephews over there, and just use them with those guys while I'm there.

Got it!  I did a little research awhile back when I was scouting for New Worlds to live in when the Commies take over America.....
