Got a buddy who is getting his daughter an AR for Christmas, she wants the furniture (stock, forearm, grip) purple.  I've yet to locate a set that are available to purchase but have found a couple options.

1st is to get the gun with the black furniture and duracoat the furniture purple.  Worried about the purple showing up on the black furniture though.  Wondering if a white base coat of duracoat under might be a good ideal.  Thinking duracoat due to not using heat on the polymer material.

2nd would be get the gun with FDE furniture and then use RID to die to a purple color.  Seen this done a couple times and it turns out ok.  The RID die seems to penetrate enough that scratches won't expose the FDE for most minor stuff.

Any better options I'm missing or thoughts on what I should do.

Just send the furniture to an industrial anodizing company. They will strip it down to bare aluminum and re-anodize the parts. That will give you the most vibrant purple color.

There are anodizing companies throughout the US. I had my AR parts camo anodized by a company called Deming Industries.

...and there's that ^^^
...which is a good option for the plastic parts. If he wants an aluminum handguard vs nylon, though, anodizing is a better option than painting from the standpoint of looks and durability, IMO.

I didn't say it was a good idea, or a good buy, or even something I would consider.  But it is out there.

My suggestion would be a rattle-can camo job with girly colors, maybe pink and purple.

Just buy the purple furniture.

I was worried when my daughters wanted their AR-15s lime green and electric blue.
Here are my spawn on their first hunt with their custom colored carbines.

cheaptrick, no freaks of nature (southpaws) in my tribe. Just kidding, I teach my spawn to shoot from their non-dominant side as well. That picture was taken several years ago and they are much bigger now but still like to shoot and hunt.

I will let her know about the dust cover but I must confess that I leave mine down quite a bit as well. You would think I would learn my lesson from shooting and hunting in west Texas.

Alas, the lovely young damsel won't have to endure the prejudice, dismissal and the scorn of a cruel, right handed world.  Wink

Teaching weak handed shooting techniques is oft overlooked by most. Good for you.

That previous comment was very culturally insensitive of me and totally uncalled for, and for that, I apologize to you freakazoids.

Wow! Amazing how many OT people are aligned with the current POTUS in reguards to which hand they prefer to write with and play golf.

RC and Kickboxer, my dad is legally blind in his right eye so he had to shoot F.O.N. (left handed). The Army Rifle Team even let him shoot his Garand F.O.N.

I actually feel sorry for the South Paws because Cheaptrick is correct, this is a cruel right handed world for anyone that is left handed.

I was gonna say that but refrained, in the spirit of trying to take the high road and not insult the "orientationally disadvantaged" among us. They have enough struggles to contend with already.  And, it sure is cute to watch them try.

I guess we really need to focus on if SVT_Tactical's buddy is good to go on Purple Furniture and such?

Because we really went of course with the right vs. left hand issues. Even though it has been very funny.

Suggest you use "Purpleheart" a South American lumber available through EBAY and others--cost is about $12 a board foot. I'm even going into the business of making custom furniture for AR's and AK's; using a CNC machine for wood.

Welcome to OT, quixdraw!

Using purpleheart is a good idea. I have a strip of purpleheart in the riser of my longbow for contrast.

I would like to see some pics of some of your work, if you have some.

We have magpul black furniture on the way,  going to use duracoat or equivalent to put on one coat of grey then the purple after that.  I'll try to get photos along the way.
