hey guys.

I have a couple of questions quicklike.   I have Browning A-Bolt chambered in 300 WSM.   I also have a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40.

I won the 300.  And then I won the scope..   But, I was still young and experienced.  I went to cabelas and bought the first mount/ring set that worked on a browning a-bolt.   So, I ended up with Leupold Dual Dovetail high (or super-high) rings.

This is the gun:

I'm going to just link out the the other pictures.    But my problem is...   What size rings should I go with?   Those are obviously very high, and I blamed the scope for being a POS last hunt when i had a hard time getting the animal in my sights.   Since then, I've outfitted a 10/22 and a few other guns with scopes/rings and learned a lot.  It's time to change up my hunting rifle to work for me, not against me.

So right now, the gap between the objective and the barrel is about 7/16s of an inch.   I can put a golf tee head all the way through it with a bit to spare, and the golf tee head is 7/16ths an inch.

So, without buying new mounts, cause i heard those leupold DDs are pretty good for big caliber rifles, what size rings should/could I get?   I was thinking of getting These:

I'm not sure how to decide though.  Or the process to decide.  I have done the test where i put my cheek on the rifle with my eyes close, and when i open them i'm lower than i think i should /ever/ be, but i'm at least half an inch below the scope.    So while shooting, my head is in a wickedly weird position.    I'd like the scope as low as possible, but leaving a hair of room to slide on my lens cover.   The bolt shouldn't be a problem.

They measure rings like this:  (not sure how it helps)

Ring Height: 1" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube)
Super-Low: .050"
Low: .060"
Medium: .180"
High: .310"
Super-High: .410"

Here are a few more pictures.

Any help would be very appreciated!!

Thank you very much guys!

I was wrong... :)

The whole thing I was wrong.

Those are dual dovetails....    heh.  man, i suck.  Still inexperienced. :)

Main question still stands.  I'm pretty sure i have Leupold STD mounts and i need to know the height that I should get the rings at.  If I go to cabelas, i'll pay double what i would for rings online.  So i'd rather just order online.   I'd take the gun in, but I only own a motorcycle right now. :)    Rock - me - Hard spot!

I would suggest getting a new set of mounts.  Get Talley mounts.

This is an Abolt 300 wsm with low talley mounts and a 42mm scope.

7/16" of an inch is 0.4375".  You need to know which rings you have, or else get out your golf tees and measure them.

If you wanted 1/16" (0.0625") clearance between your objective and barrel, you'd want rings 0.375" lower than the ones you have.
