If I had a scope that would meet his needs I would give it to him.  He has looked through what I have and nothing quite meets his needs or expectations.

He is looking at less than $500 he is an older gentlemen and has poor vision he has had 3 cataracts surgeries and wears pretty thick glasses.

Wondering if you guys can suggest a scope that is easy on the eyes and he can get into a 65 and older 500yrd competition at the local club.

Since I have young eyes I do not know what scope is preferable for old eyes I know everyone's eyes are different but was hoping to hear from you more "experienced" gentlemen.

He believes he can benefit from the newer technology vs his older redfields and leupolds I told him I would ask around...

So criteria is medium magnification range that is easy to get behind and easy on the eyes.

It will be used at a 300yrd range for practice and a 500yrd range for competition days.

Thank you in advance.

Any suggestions will be taken seriously.

Check out the Swift Premier line.  They are excellent value scopes.  I had a 4-12 for a long time... it was great.  I've had very brief hands on with the 8-32 and am always thinking I'm going to get one, but don't have one yet.  Good glass, decent mechanicals, good warranty... the only reason I don't have mine any longer is I gave it to someone who needed a scope for a child with cancer and could not afford one...

Why not a fixed 16x Mil Quad Super Sniper.

I was thinking the same thing a SS 16x or maybe a 12x Mil quad.

This would be almost ideal, I would think.

Was worried about Eye Relief and clarity and brightness at the edges.

You tell me though...

Eye relief on mine was plenty good.  It was on my daughters' 243 when they were not shooting with the Leatherwood.  I had the Swift on my 30-06 for a while.  Never an issue.  However, I've never really had an issue with eye relief...  I don't pay much attention to it.

Clarity is very good.  Swift uses the best glass I've seen in the price range and better than some much more expensive scopes.

Tell you what... get him to try it out.  If he doesn't like it... I'll buy the scope as long as it is still in good shape.

That's MY guarantee of Swift quality... The 8-32 is a great target scope.  I need one...

Speaking as one who is almost 68,wearing bi-focals the most important thing to me is glass clarity.Magnification takes a back seat for me.Of coarse I've gradually stepped into the Alpha class but I was very happy with a SS 10X for several years.

If a tight budget is what your faced with you might want to go to the sample list, lots of great deals there........Ernie
