Posting in this subsection because a rifled shotgun is more rifle than shotgun and also it is more active ;)

I am thinking of installing the above linked scope on my cantilever barrel 20 gauge rifled barrel for the northeast whitetail woods where shots are usually fairly close. It is a 1.75 to 5 x 32 mm objective with eye relief of 3.5-3.7". Is this a good scope for that purpose? There are many in the ~200-230 price range from competitors as well.

Is this enough eye relief for a 20 gauge that has a LimbSaver pad on the stock? Don't want to tattoo my face...Alternatively I have heard that the long 5" eye relief models (like the leupold vx-1 and Nikon slug scopes) may not even be able to be properly installed on a cantilever barrel. I have no idea if this is true as I've never scoped a cantilevered barrel.

Thanks for any input!

Optional Accessories:

You only loose .25 on the low end which most folks would never notice and you gain a couple extra on the top.  The BDC reticle,  once you spend some time on the range could make you crazy fast and accurate at distances that 20ga should be effective at.
I wouldn't be to concerned about eye relief, that 20 also doesn't kick to bad.  No more than a smaller bore centerfire.   I shot a Remington 870 20ga for years as my primary hunting gun when I was a kid.  I had the same type cantilever barrel for it and used an old fixed 4X on mine.  No deer under 200 every said I didn't have enough glass to get'em.  If I recall it was an old scopechief and had about 3.5" of ER.  Even as a 8-12 year old I never got bit.

The second scope you list does drop the eye relief from a min of 3.5" to 3.1" but i will definitely look into it. It's tough to say what I need or what is too much worrying.

My slug gun wears a Sightron S2 in a straight 4X. As far as I'm concerned it's perfect... ample ER, decent glass, lightweight and 4X is plenty for my typical ranges. Food for thought.
