Im worried about losing optical clarity with a NON HD glass SWFA SS 16X42 compared to the NON HD SWFA SS 10X42. Ive been thinking about them both but dont wnat to be dissapointed.

Has anyone compared to 2 in a side by side test or have experience with the 2. I would really like to opt for the 16X.

Currently only shooting 600yards but wnat to extend that out t 1000+.

If you shoot in good light, 16x42 is a nice scope for longer range shooting.

If you need to shoot when the sun gets low, I would really consider going with a 10x or a variable.

In terms of optical quality, 10x42 and 16x42 are built to the same standards.  However, higher magnification allows you to see more flaws in the design.  That having been said, fixed power SS scopes are pretty well worked out and as long as you keep the limitations of a small exit pupil in mind, 16x42 will work well for you.

If you are looking for more versatility, perhaps you should consider upping your budget a bit and going with the new 3-15x42.  I have been playing with one for a bit and it is an exceptionally nice scope, especially for the money.

Clarity on the 16x is extremely good.  I own the 16x and have owned all three models of the 10x.  While it is not the same glass as the 10x HD it is less than half the price and I like it better than the 20x as well so the 16x and the 6x are my favorites.  The 6x is the brightest in low light.  The 16x will be a fine choice for what you are doing.
