I did an OCW test with this powder in my 308 - 24inch barrel, 1 in 11.25 twist, 175gr SMK, Lapua brass, WLR primer - and my results were pretty poor.

I started at 42.4gr and worked up to 43.9gr in .3gr increments, with 3 shot groups. The smallest of which measured .43inches (42.7gr). Which is large, especially considering that it was only a 3 shot group. The test was done at 100 yards.

Has anyone had any success with this powder using similar components? I think ill still go back and re - do the test. The group sizes could have been my fault; maybe I was just having a bad day? The groups were all either vertically or horizontally spread, which doesn't normally happen, my scope mounts were not loose, and my base is bedded. I haven't had this problem with other powders.

Your input as always, is appreciated.

IMR 4064 is the accuracy standard [powder for the 308 using 168 and 175 Sierra match kings.

Don't try the OCW for this powder, or as I call it "the random guess method".

Start at 42.5 grains for 3 rounds. Increase by .2 grains and try again. Somewhere between there and 44 grains you will find your load.

EDIT;
Just looked at old load notes for a 1;12 twist barrel.
175 SMK, Fed 210M, Hornady brass, 41.5 grains IMR 4064
2605 fps 3 ES 1 SD and rather accurate.

Disadvantages of IMR 4064:
Difficult to measure almost to the point of frustration.
Has to be weighed, won't throw from a dispenser to any reasonable consistency.
Very temp sensitive. You'll need a drop table fro each 10 degree temp increment.

Good Shooting,
Mike

I did just as you suggested, except I used . 3 grain incrememtns instead of .2 earlier, but I will try again. I also did not start as low as 41.5gr so I may try that as well.

Let me start by saying I'm a newbie...but maybe I'm mistaken, or my standards are too low. But shooting better than 1/2 MOA (.43") is pretty awesome if you ask me.

I know it's not 3 shots in 1 hole, but I'd take that all day.

Just sayin.Cool
