So, i figured i'd finally post some pictures of the toy i added to the family a few months back. Got an absolutely incredible deal on this beauty and figured she'd help push back any mid life crisis in the process. Big Grin

To many upgrades to mention and i bought it with less than 14k miles on it for 23K....car was very well taken care of and barely driven over it's 4+ years prior to me buying it. Only live once right, and God bless a wife that was ok with the purchase. That and her dad is a Ford/Mustang NUT! He owns a 65 coupe, a 70 Mach 1, 92 LX, and his wife has an 07 GT. Big Grin Needless to say, he was quite pleased with my purchase.

GT Premium
V8 4.6L
Shaker scoop
Roush louvers
Roush CAI
Twin TB 62mm
Vapor metallic (only made that color 1 year i believe)
Flowmaster duel exhaust (sounds incredible)

The funny thing is i was NEVER a ford guy for most of my life. I never liked the Mustangs until they came out with the retro look in 05 i believe it was. My first car was a 98 Trans AM WS6 when i was in the military (things you buy when you're 19 lol). I have to say though, i absolutely love this car and pretty much everything Ford has done recently.

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
The one that caught my eye at the Ford dealer when I was having my truck serviced was a 2010 GT with the 4.6 liter V8. It was black with red trim and interior too.
What kind of gas milage do you get Paul? My old Crown Vic police car got pretty good milage with tyhe 4.6 and it would haul ass right up to 105 where the chip would cut 2 cylinders out.
Please please tell me more.

I'm actually getting pretty solid gas mileage. I only have about 7 miles, one way to work, so i don't run her very hard, most of the time Wink. I think the last reading i remember was like 17.5ish miles per, and that's all "city" driving. Out on the highway, i'm pushing 22 or 23 so it's better than my Ram 1500.

It idles REALLY NICE. The folks at work have pretty much all paid me compliments at some point or another on the sound. From about 55 to low 60's it's got a real deep, mean growl to it, and then it levels off above that on the highway.

That's about the same milage a friend of mine gets with his 2010 Crown Vic with a 4.6.
I'm assuming your's has a pretty firm suspension. The one thing my friend noticed between his police car (a Crown Vic) and his POV was the suspension. The police cars had a pretty high g-rating and handled and cornered well.

It sticks corners better than my Trans Am did and definitely is notch better in ride comfort and overall handling. I'm really suprised at how well it handles the country road driving as that's mainly what i'm on.

Always had a Ford truck after graduating from high school. Had two mustangs in high school, one '68 with a straight six and one '67 GTA that had the 289 Hi-Po motor. Damn, wish I still had that car.

The new camaros do absolutely nothing for me. Look like utter garbage IMO. Look like new age fancy razors.....I do like the Challengers as they represent a closer model to the old muscle car era versions.

Ford blew everyone out of the water with the revert back to retro stangs back in 05. The newer models are absolute beasts to drive.

Today's muscle lacks the character of the classic muscle of the late 60's and early 70's though. 70' Chevelle is as good as it gets for looks as is 68' Road Runner.

Posted By: shooter07
Date Posted: October/17/2013 at 15:52

Oh, no doubt.....i simply think that Ford did the best job of getting a car that looks the part and performs in a package. Challenger is next in line. Don't like the Camaros today, Chargers etc.

69 Chevelle is easily in my top 5 all time favorite cars. I'm a big fan of the Camaro's before they went to the split bumper, and hell even the Firebirds were badass. If you're talking high end, it's hard to beat a Boss 302 for me.

Paul, it's a 2013 Mustang GT Premium (5.0 Coyote) with Brembo brake package.

I agree with wrecked balls to a degree. The muscle cars of the late 60s and early 70s had tons more character than todays cars, AND you could work on them without having to have a 4 year degree and certification in compooter sciences, and mechanical engineering, unlike todays cars. You also had so many different options, from family size cars like the Roadrunner and Chevelle down to the pony cars like the Mustang, Camero, and Baracudas. Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler, and even American Motors (remember them) made a muscle version out of just about every different body style that they made, and if it wasn't a muscle car it could well have some muscle under the hood. I loved driving dad's 1970 Chrysler 300 with that 440 4bbl under the hood. And when it blew a head gasket, dad pulled the head off and fixed it himself. Yeah, cars back in the 60s and early 70s had a whole lot more character, and not just muscle cars. Back then you could just about get any engine you wanted in just about any body style you wanted, from a straight six cylinder, to a small block V-8 in various cu. in. discplacements and carberation, to big block V-8s of various sizes.
Then along came the oil embargo, and the EPA (thanks Tricky Dick), and the muscle car almost became extinct.
Technology development is the only thing that has saved the muscle car from being a museum piece. The plus side is finally they are producing more horse power, better gas milage, and better handling. The down side is it cost more, and only a highly educated mechanic can work on it.
If a 69 Mach 1 Mustang fastback in excellent shape now didn't cost $75,000 to $125,000, that would have been my first choice for a Mustang.

Before I bought my first muscle car, (a 1970 Dodge Challenger 340, 4bbl, 4 speed) I looked at all kinds of muscle and was really drawn to the 69 Mach 1 fastbacks, but the movie Vanishing Point sold me on the Challenger. I had more fun with that Challenger than any car to date.

My second muscle car was a 1985 Z-28, with a 305 with tuned port injection and a 4 speed automatic. Challengers weren't made, and Mustangs weren't exciting. It was an ok muscle car, and probably would have given my old Challenger a run for it's money in it's prime, but eventually it had to go. With only 35,000 mile, and only 5 or 6 years old I sold it. I almost cried that day, but in the long run, I'm glad I sold it. Not many Z-28s of that body style considered classics or still around.

When the new Challengers came out, I started to get the bug again, but wasn't ready to buy anything. I thought the new Mustangs were cool, they looked like a cross between the 68, 69, and 70 Mustangs, so I kept an eye on them too. Then Chevy came out with their new Camero. What were they thinking? The only thing the Camero had going for it was the full independent suspension, and that wasn't enough.

When Paul started this thread, I started thinking it was time to think about another muscle car. The Challenger and the Mustang were my prime focus of research. I did look at the Camero to be fair. The more I looked at the Mustangs the more the newer ones appealed to me with the new 5.0 Coyote engine. Finally I did a power to weight ratio comparison of the 3 cars, and the Mustang came out on top. That pretty much sold me. That and a few other things. I mean after all, I had had a Challenger and Camero already, I needed a MustangBig Grin

Mine was a '70 boo I dropped a 350 4bbl into her then swapped out the drive train for one from a Monte Carlo SS.  (turbo 400 with matched driveshaft SS posi rear with 3.73" Cool

Total invested, $310 for car, $40 and cap of Hash oil for the 350 4bbl and $400 for the drive train.
Oh the high school days....

The Turbo 400 definitely helped!  The boo started out as a 307 V8 2 door but once I got her she quickly grew fangs.... Cool

Reading this thread reminded me of days of old. Remember Muncie "Rock Crusher" or M-22 transmissions?
I had a Muncie M-21 in my '65 GTO. Never had a Rock Crusher, but friends did.

Hurst shifter, Muncie transmission, Hooker headers, Holley 650 4bbl, Mallory dual point distributor, Accell coil and plug wires, Crane cams and lifters, Mag or Craiger wheels, and more; all must have aftermarket parts for your 65-71 tire burnerCamaro

The whole deal with that car still makes me shake my head!  Bought it from an asian couple.  When test driving it, as I pulled away from curb the car make loud weird sound.  I jstopped jumped out popped the hood and quickly checked things out....nothing... But the th easian guy started yelling at his wife that she messed up another car....  I finished the test drive and said I wasn't interested cause the noise probably meant a tranny rebuild... Whistling   MOre of them yelling at each other and finally the guy said make me an offer.  I said $250, he screamed and cussed but finally agreed on $310.  The car never made that sound again... Smile

Well the lady had never done any engine maintenance.  2 plugs were original!  Anyway I drove it two weeks and blew all the gunk outyof the rings.  After that she started using oil like I do salt.

Start inquiring about engines and a buddy said there was an old engine that came out of his granddad's Pick-up and was sitting in the side yard for  a couple of years.  Well with alarms ringing I asked him to ask his grandma.  She was tickled pick to get rid of it.

The engine history:  Out of an Impala that was totalled.  Rebuilt and put into grand pops pick-up.
Grandpop died the next year.  They had the old straight 6 put back into the pick up and sold it.  It V8 4 bbl sat in the side yard for 3 years under a tarp.  She gave it to me but my buddy extorted $40 and coke cap of hash oil to deliver it.  When I got the engine the carb was totally oxidized and I had a sinking feeling.  So, I pulled the heads and the damn thing looked brand new!!! Yippee.

Slapped it all back together, threw a holley on her and I was off and running!!!

Ran like that for 3 months until I found the 400 drive train from a local junkyard. It wasn't till I later put headers on it that I crossed the $1000 spent mark.  Put 80K+ on her and sold her for more than I had in her....  Ah the good old days!

I too was a MOPAR fan until they took the Fed money. They all ran like scalded dogs, but they all came with a case of the Chrysler crummies, so you had to stay on top of everything maintenance wise. They were easy to work on though.

I've been following the 2015 Mustang story since I started my research. Ford is keeping the final body a close secret, and yes I've seen all kinds of artist drawings. What have been able to find out is that it will have the same engines with some improvements, it will be about 300lbs. lighter, and have (are you ready for this) FULL INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION. I thought long and hard about holding out for the 2015, but decided to go with a current model.

Quadra-Jets, or Quadra Junks to the haters. I loved Quadra-Jets that were running RIGHT. Friends had Holley carbs and were always messing with them.

I remember a guy in High School brought in a Mopar Thermo-Quad to shop class once. Holy cats....that thing looked like a lawn mower engine!

Ok on the boo Bud. One of my friends had a 70 Chevelle SS, 350, 4 speed with a 2bbl carb. What, you say, it can't be. His insurance Co. wouldn't insure the 4bbl, so he swapped carbs and intakes with another friends 70 Nova SS, 350, 3 speed on the floor. The Chevelle was beautiful, but the Nova became a legend.
I always had a thing for the 66 and 67 Malibu. Reminded me of another friend's 66 GTO.

I never understood why novas were so popular.  To me they are the ugly family car that survived as beaters so long that eventually they became popular becuase of availability and price compared to more popular muscle cars.

Anybody remember an AMC car called "The Machine"? A friend had one in the small Iowa town I lived in.
I came home one Christmas on leave and didn't have a car. I saw Steve at the local watering hole and he told me I could drive his car around.
He told me.....:DON'T race anyone with that car....and if you do..DON'T lose". Big Grin

Don't know, Bud. It said "Rebel" on it and "The Machine", as I recall. It had a Ford 390 in it and a 4 speed and Posi Trac.
It was a fun car to run around in, but I never REALLY got in to it, because I didn't want to abuse the graciousness of my friends kind offer.

Oh Bud, you don't know what you missed with the Nova and Chevy II. They were light weight and nimble, and very fast. One friend started off with a 62 Chevy II with a small 6 cylinder, and ended up with a 64 Chevy II with a 250cu in 6 cylinder with 3 one bbl carbs, headers, and a few other engine mods recommended by the factory, a 4speed, and Corvair mufflers, and some suspension mods. Talk about a sleeper, it may not have won at the track, but getting around town and short trips, well it was just quick. I always wanted a 66 or 67 Chevy II station wagon with a 327 (wanted to bootleg Coors beer from Colorado to Kentucky).
My friend with his 70 Nova with the 350 4bbl and 3 speed on the floor was just plain bad ass. I've never been faster unless wings and being off the ground were involved. Very few people and cars ever beat him at the track (and most of them cheated), and NO body could catch him on the street or road. In his Nova, I trusted him and he/we did some things that make me wonder how we lived past 21.
So don't sell the Nova short. I've seen them eat the lunch of a lot of fine muscle cars.

+1 on not selling the Nova short. I had a 70 with a 350HP 350, 4 speed with some suspension mods that was pretty quick. And BF I know what you mean about wondering how we lived past 21. Not too many people would ride with me more than once.

Need to give the Stang a bath, but no since in it until I can get it under roof.
Hope to post pics later this week.

My 2 favorite years of Corvettes are the 63 Stingray and the 69 (Mako Shark). I always liked the 63 in a 327, 3 deuce with 4 speed and a hard top, and the 69 in a 427 4bbl with 4 speed with the T-top. It was 1984 before I got excited about the Vette again, and it wasn't as exciting as the 69.
You have good taste in Vettes Sarge.

My neighbor in high school had a '63 Vette convertible. ALL black, except the chrome side pipes that were on the side. I got a few burnt legs getting out of that car on the pipes.

Don't think the motor was original. Can't remember if it had a 327 or 350, but I think the latter. Also had a high rise manifold.
