I am getting ready to unload some bucks for a lifetime scope.  I don't mind spending 1500.00 but I want to get the most from my money.  Can I safely spend 800.00 and get a comparable scope or must I spend the 1500 for a Swarovski PH or Zeiss Diavari?  Please help.

Let's start by figuring out what you need the scope for.

You already have a budget.

Hunting long range, BR, hunting from a ground blind or tree stand (short range), etc??

Have you ever heared of SCHMIDT AND BENDER?

www.schmidtbender.com

I have 1 and have had a few. I currently have the 3-12x42. Tough as nails, bright, great contrast and I love the #9 reticle.

For way less money and a darn good scope. i recommend the zeiss conquest 3-9x40. Optically it is about neck and neck with the schmidt but i would trust the S&B if I was only getting 1 scope more so than the conquest.

Are you looking for a 30mm maintube?   A few 1" ers that are close to the ones you mention for less money... Kahles CL, Swarovski AH, Zeiss Conquest.

Yes --- you definately must spend the $1500   ---   and more if you have it. Just send money --- we will be glad to pick one we like.

Seriously you have to give us a clue what type of rifle and what do you plan to use it for at what distance for us to make a viable suggestion. Generally I would say buy the top of the line from the manufacturer of your choice in a power range that best suits your style of shooting. There are some reticles by certain manufacturers that will aid you in certain types of shooting.  I like the  varmit reticle in the leupold VXIII and the IOR MP8 reticle and the mil dots ,TMR Leupold Mark 4 reticle and  Burris Balistic Plex.   I like Zeiss Glass Nikon Glass IOR Glass and Leupold VXIII & Mark 4 glass. I find the 4.5-14 power range to be most useful overall. I really prefer the 30mm tube scopes to the 1 inch tubes.  My scope of preference is a Leupold Long Range Tactica 4.5-14 but U.S. Optics is better and so is S&B but I doubt I will ever own either.  Last scope I bought was a Super Sniper 10x42 M with side focus before that a Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold before that a 3-9x40 Leupold PR before that Leupold 8.5-25x50 Mark 4 ...aimpoint, burris 1x, Leu Mk4 10x M3, VXIII 4.5.14x50, VXIII 3.5-10x40, Tasco 3-9x40 etc......

So it depends on what you are going to do with it.

Buy one of each - April Fools
