Looked at the Leupold VX-II 4-14X40 verses the Bushnell 4200 4-16X40.  The one thng I could not get past was the overall size of the Bushnell. Seems that if one missed, you could always use the scope as a weapon.

Optically, I did not see a great difference, but maybe over-looked something?

Anone else share the opinion or am I just too sold on Leupold. Found a better price on the Bushnell ($330), but the extra $60 seems worth while.

Comparing them in low/bad light would be a better way to go.  Elite 4200 has better glass than VX-II (or than VX-III for that matter).

4200 is my choice over VXII. You mentioned this fact: 4-14x40 Leupold / 4-16 Elite.

So you even get 2X more power from the Elite 4200 over the Leupold.

I do wish Leupold VXIII, Nikon Monarch, Zeiss Conquest, Weaver Grand Slam would increase their power change range to at least four-fold or better yet five-fold.

Leupold for me.  I just can't get past the size of the 4200's, even if they do have slightly better glass.

Opinions differ.  I thought that the difference in optical quality between Elite 4200 and VX-II is quite substantial, but if you are looking for a compact scope, Elite 4200 is certainly not the way to go.

Opinions do differ..very good point. As does what each of us is looking for in a scope for a particle rifle. I have a couple Leupolds on 2 mountain rifles and really like the clean lines and light weight. I have a couple other VX-IIIs on target and varmint scopes and have been impresssed. I went looking a for a scope for a Savage LE 308 20" barrel. While not particluarly a light weight weapon, I just was suprised by the overall length of the Bushnell.

Looked at a Burris Fullfield II to compare to these two scopes. Seemed to be quite a step down.  Have decided to give the 4200 a try. Can always put it on a bean field 7mmSTW if it is too large for the Savage

4200 All the way, yes it is a bigger scope but the optics more than make up for it.

Where did you find an unbiased review on that website?  Why do you think Leupold will stop making VX-II?

All I saw in that link was some Burris' press releases and sales pitches.

The Bushnell 4200 arrived today. Mounted it on my Savage FP 308. The scope is darn near as long as the barrel (20"). Head to the range on Friday and will use the 100 and 200 yard ranges. Anyone know how much elevation the 4200 Elite can give for longer range work with a flat base?

Still have one more scope to upgrade on a Remington Sendero in 7mm STW. Am giving the Bushnell a try but Leupold VX-?.

Shooting will only tell.

I found the 4200 eye relief unsat for high recoil - all else was OK.
