Hi Forum,

Let's say I have a fixed-power scope 7x36. Is it possible to put an attachment on it to double the magnifying power? Triple it? Are such attachments (if exist) easily available?

I apologize for my ignorance and appreciate your input.

There are magnifiers available for a number of different scopes/rifles combinations.  However, a magnifier is not an optimum solution, but a degradation in general "optical quality"  that has some advantages in certain situations.  You get increased magnification.  That is not always an advantage.  You lose a lot of light transmission, clarity, resolution, on and on.

If you need more magnification, I suggest you get a scope with variable power over the range you want or get a higher mag scope you can switch to when you want/need it.

I don't like "magnifiers".

Thank you for your reply. I understand the disadvanteges, but the scope I am talking about is pretty unique and getting a veriable power version of it will cost me arou 1900EUR { http://www.nickel-ag.com/en/products/scopes/r41656.aspx - edited for competitor link}...

The scope I am talking about is for 50m Running Target, and 7 power is a little too small....

Could you point me in a direction where I can find such manifyers? And how would I know whether they'll work with my scope?

I appreciate your input.

If you are planning on using this magnifier on anything other than a red dot type scope, I believe you are going to introduce significant difficulties trying to utilize your reticle.  I don't know of any magnifiers offhand that are used with a "standard" scope and reticle.  I've never liked them, so don't pay much attention to them.
If you are shooting at 50m at a running target, I don't know what a magnifier is going to be good for.  At 7x you have more than enough magnification... it is difficult to keep a running target in FOV at that range with a 7x scope.  You would need an incredibly long receiver, I think, if you COULD add a magnifier.  Unclear what more mag power you would need.    I would certainly want to use a lower power scope for that range... you need more FOV, not magnification.   Unless you are shooting mice...

Many years ago I ordered a 6X40 Burris Signature. I opened the box looked at the scope to check it out and saw that it was indeed marked as a 6X scope but when I looked through it I quickly determined that it was a 4X scope. Burris swapped out some internal lenses and returned the same scope to me but now as a 6X. Possibly if they had the right lenses they could have made up a 8X that I would have preferred more.

Many years ago I saw various 10 to 12 X scopes boosted up to 24 to 36 X for bench rest shooters. I guess the doors would slam shut on warranty repairs.
