I just bought a howa .243.I am looking for a scope for it.I want something under $700 that is going to give me the chance to deer hunt as late in the day as possible(til dark).I have a 3-9x40 conquest on my .270 and love it.But I am considering a 3-9x50 conquest or a kahles amer. hunter 3-9x42.Weight doesn't matter too much cuz I hunt from a tree stand. Please help me out with these choices or others that you think might be better.

p.s. Any opinions on the howa 1500

What is the average distance you plan to shoot deer with a .243 ?  The Point Blank Range for a .243 95gr Barnes XLC is 300 yards. At 300 yards you only have 1026 ft. lbs. of energy. It would need to be a perfect vital shot to insure human kill. So with all this in mind, I would look at the Kahles 2-7 X 36 American Riflescope with TDS-Plex. It weights 12 oz. and only 11 inches long and would feel and look good on your Howa.

I have had  a Howa 1500 in 30-06 for a number of years. In addition to a fine looking wood stock, it shoots under 1inch groups at 100 yards with factory ammo. The price was right too.  I am a fan.  Just hope they have maintained their quality as they expanded their line and market share in the US

Leupold Varix2, 3-9x 50, but did the same with a Nikon 4x (pre Monarch days).

You'll love Kahles!  I will say that the CL & European models (the ones I have expereince with; don't own an American model) are some of the brightest optics I've ever used.

I have looked through the new Leupold VX-L line & while the glass is decent it was not (to MY EYES) in the same class as either the CL or European Kahles.  I would say the same thing when comparing the Monarch Gold (in 30mm) to the VX-L.  When you compare the two on a cost & quality basis the Nikon wins hands down...
