Question for someone with more kowlege than I have....I have a couple of (early?) Nikon riflescopes with a gloss finish--I haven't seen anything but matte finish on Nikon scopes for quite a few years. When did Nikon offer a gloss finish on their scopes?? I'm under the impression that Nikon hasn't marketed scopes for more than 15 years or so---Just curious.

Many companies that used to offer gloss finished scopes don't any longer...Nikon being one. It's most likely a sales / marketing determination. If you want a gloss, Bushy Elite, Leupold and Sightron do offer such (although they are no longer listed on the Sightron website). Nikon still sells scopes BTW. Oh, and welcome to the OT forums!

When the New Monarchs first came out Nikon offered a couple of them in gloss.  The 2.5-10x42 and the 3-12x42 were offered in gloss.  They have since stopped making any model in a gloss finish, which is a shame, because if they offered that little 2-8x32 in gloss, I'd have one.
