I need some education on Winchester Model 70 pre 64 base mounts

I have one, per Winchester factory, they said it was made in 1959. I am trying to find scope bases that fit. I spoke to Weaver tech support and was told that Per 64’s have only three holes for the bases, so I would need a one piece mount. (Weaver 48936). Leupold said (#49836 two piece)

I have four holes on top for mounting. The rifle has on it now,  Millett see-thru 1” rings with a Weaver V9-B/3-9AO. I am looking at mounting a newer more powerful scope on it and they are all 30mm tubes. Looking at putting on a Counter Sniper 4-48x56, to do this I need to install two piece bases and find x-tall rings that will fit on weaver style bases and clear for the main objective: 56mm.

Does anybody know, did this 1959 Win M70 come with three scope mounting holes or four?

If you are going to be using a counter sniper just put the thing on there with duct tape, it will hold about the same zero as if you have good rings.

Agreed, I would definitely rethink the optic before worrying about the mounting system.

State intended use and price range and any of the guys on here can throw in some ideas.
48x is way to much magnification for anything practical.

Winchester has had four holes ever since 1946.  There are a zillion mounts for it.

I have new 46 and 47 weaver bases. I believe that they are the correct ones. My problem now is I can not find anyone that likes Counter Sniper scopes. So I am back to looking for a scope in the area of  24 to 32 magnification.

I'd wager you'll not find any love on here for CS scopes. As a scope selection starting point, you may wish to investigate March scopes. Just wondering what the usage is that would require that much magnification? (No flame intent).

mine has a redfield base, just like the leopold.

and that rifle deserves a good optic, not some crappy chinese junk. the weaver would be ok, i have the V3 and V7, they are pretty good for the $$.

This is what I am finding on all the forums. No has anything good to say about Counter Sniper scopes, but when I ask what do these negative responders have as the backup to their opinion no one has any first hand experience with these scopes, no one has first hand use with these scopes.

I am fed up with the flock mentality; that someone said it was no good and everybody falls in line and agree that it is no good. These Counter Sniper scopes maybe poor, I don’t know. But I what real info so I understand why. I don’t know if these are good scopes and it seams that no one else KNOWS if they are any good, but everyone seems to be against them. WHY?

Your question, why do I need that much magnification. I respond why not. As an example, if you are driving a 500-600 HP car. The car should be fast, that doesn’t mean that you use the power but you have it if you need it, correct? I'm putting it on a 30-06, it should be able to handel that scope

I keep asking WHY?
Hay, Thanks for asking a real question
