Well, here's the situation: My boy bought a Remington 700 CDL in .270, and he decided to top it off with a Zeiss 3x9x40 Conquest. So far everything is good..., I mean I like these two choices a lot. Love the gun, and think the scope is top drawer material too!!!
Thing is, I'm not huge into rifles, at least not enough to know a whole bunch about rings and mounts. I've got an older model 700 that I put conetrol stuff on back in the day, and I've got an older BLR with Redfield stuff on it. My new M77 came with rings, so no decision to make there , but that's about the extent of my centerfire rifle collection. So you can see I have pretty much zero knowledge on rings and bases.
So with that said, I posted a couple of places and got some really good info. I thought about Talley one-piece lightweights, but then the boy really leans toward the Leupolds. I was told to maybe look into the Duel-Dovetail rather than the standard, and I kinda liked that advice, so thought I'd go that way. (My boy has left me in charge of this part of it since he's went back to college... He bought the gun and scope, then left it here to get the scope mounted) So now that we've kind of settled on the DD's, I'm not altogether sure they'll work with the Zeiss (Or maybe they will..., extentions..., reversable...)
I'd really like to see a picture of a Conquest mounted on a Remington, that'd maybe ease my little mind! (I searched the internet but came up empty)
Thing is, I measured from the center of the back screw hole tapped in the receiver, to the center of the front tapped screw hole and that measures 6".
The Zeiss measures 6 1/8" between where the scope begins to bell on either end.
So I'm assumeing the actual rings will set a tad closer together than all the above measurements, which ought to allow the thing to be mounted, but maybe not allow for much adjustment. It's supposed to have a 4" e/r so that may help some too.
When I hold them side-by-side, the rear bell on the Zeiss seems bigger around than the Leupold Vari-X ll that I'll be putting on my M77, so now I'm wondering if the Remington's bolt throw will be an issue..., or if we'll be forced to use higher rings?
I don't know, I'm just hoping the DD bases that the local gun store ordered for me today will work.
Have any of you guys out there mounted a Zeiss on a Remington - if so, what set-up did you use?
Thanks a bunch!
