Inherited some guns/scopes from my 87 year old uncle and on of them is a 3x44 scope made by WESTERN FIELD. Made in Japan. Given that he hasn't bought a new gun/scope since LBJ was in office, I'm guessing this scope was made in the 1960's. My question is...is this a quality scope or junk? I'm getting conflicting accounts about it. One report said it was made for Montgomery Wards by Weaver, another that it's a Tasco product. Regardless the manufacturer, it's looks well made & solid. Clear as a bell. Would like to mount it on a .308 99 Savage Can anyone give me some info on this item?

  WELCOME to OT,eg.

Is the scope body steel or aluminum?  I'll guess it's a Tasco but....................

Regardless of which one you'd be taking a chance by using the scope in the field.  The o-rings used to seal it from moisture are probably dry rotted.  Also I had a couple steel Weavers whose lenses, though the scope looked fairly clear, needed replaced.

I would bet a yen that it´s manufactured by Tasco.
