I am looking to put a new Scope on an older Remington Model 78, I have a simlar set up on a Remington 700BDL in 30.06.

I am looking at Burris 410293 Bases, Medium 420501 Rings but do I need to buy the offset Kit of Inserts for this Ring Set Up? Will the Medium Height Rings be high enough for use with a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40mm?

How do you know if you might need / use offset inserts .005, .010 or .020 when putting a new scope on a rifle? Can you just set the scope in the bottom half of both rings and see the misalignment of the scope using the Standard Inserts that come with the 420501 Rings and do these ring still come a set of inserts?

Or will the Standard Set of inserts work if the rifle that has a scope on it with a mount that is not shimmed and the mount is not a ring / base that is seperate parts but just a two piece mount one on the front  and one rear? I have the Burris set up on the 700 BDL and it works well and have the standard inserts. Should I need to buy the Insert kit just in case there is an issue or will I be okay with just the standard ring / insert combination and the TU Bases?

Any info will be helpful.

Thanks,
