Thanks ranburr, silver,Dale Clifford, and ceylonc for the continued suggestions.
I think I am going to leave grandpa's 30-40 alone. It is set up the way he used it,
and I know it served him well. No point in messing with it when the .35 should be
big enough for anything down here anyways. Since the .357 is light and cheap, I'm
still going to give it a shot as the brush gun since my hunting situations have been
under 100 yards all three times I have been out (Yep, I'm still a tenderfoot)
I can't imagine firing at anything longer than a football field away anyways. Maybe
in a couple years with alot more practice, but my public range is 100 yards max
as well.
I looked over the Aimpoint product line, and its too expensive for what I am trying
to accomplish. I think I would be better off buying another caliber rifle instead of
one of their sites to mount on the carbine. (Yes I do plan on eventually buying
my own rifle(s), but I need a freezer full of meat 1st before the wife would even
consider it)
I also looked over the BSA line as mentioned above:

Most of these look to not be hardy enough to use , Im afraid the panaramic window
would get too dirty too quick. Does anyone have any experience with them?
This one's price is hard to argue with if it work well, and I like the field of vision the
42 mm provides.

On the Burris side of things, whats the real difference between these two sites
besides 11 dollars and camo?

I will continue to peruse opticstalk and hopefully by President's Day I will be able
to swing over to Red Oak and purchase some kind of "visual assistance"
