Ok as a few know, i just sold my BCM 5.56 (not easy to part with) and am looking to put together something on an AR-10 platform. I already have a tack driver .308 bolt action so i'm looking to change up the caliber selection on this rifle, although i know i could save some cash by shooting the same cartridge.

I know Armalite is the title holder and designer of the AR-10 but others build on the same platform using different names (ie DPMS, LaRue, Wilson etc).

I'm basically looking at the 260 Remington and possibly the 6.5 creedmoor and i've done what feels like a crap load of Intel on both rounds and makers of rifles in those calibers.

My question is for those that have shot the 6.5 creedmoor (as i have not). What advantages if any does it hold of the 260 remy? I know it's a newer caliber, Hornady produced it and from all i can find it gets rave reviews. I've shot the 260 remy and know it's capabilities at longer distances and right now it has far more variety in terms of load selection.

I do like what i've seen from Fulton Armory's "Titan" platform. They're customizable to include Kreiger 22-24" 6.5 creedmoor (to replace standard .308 barrel). I'm not sure if anyone has first hand knowledge with them, but they give me the ability to spec out a rifle in 6.5 that i'd love to own.

Any other suggestions on manufactures of the 260 or 6.5 would be appreciated for those that have the experience.

Thanks,
Paul

POF and LWRC are real hard to beat. DPMS have been messing with the rail height, so if you want to do a mono rail, i'd stay away from them. 6.5 seems to be where it's at.

I'm looking to get out the door around 2 grand (give or take a little) minus optics. Everything in the POF, LWRC and GAP arena is pushing 3k and that's without any upgrades (not that they need many lol). Between the sale of my BCM and savings from the past year or so, i'm really looking to stay in the 2 grand price tag range.

Isn't the 6.5 Creedmore is built to work on the AR-15 frame?

Wes, i absolutely love the GAP-10. I'm trying to convince myself to hold off and just buy that in 260 when i have a little more cash in the pocket.

BTW, the 6.5 creedmoor is designed to be built on an AR-10, the 6.5 grendel is built on an AR-15 platform.

Read this article:

http://demigodllc.com/articles/6.5-shootout-260-6.5x47-6.5-creedmoor/ - http://demigodllc.com/articles/6.5-shootout-260-6.5x47-6.5-creedmoor/

(Read the whole thing if you want, or skip to the end where he says he now shoots a 260 and has sold off the others 6.5s.)

Zak knows his tuff.

I was in the same boat a few months back, decided on the 260 for several reasons, not least of which is availability of components - since I already reload.

Be sure to consider:

barrel life
anticipated ranges to shoot (no need to set up a 1,000-yard gun if you don't have access to a 1,000-yard range)
availability of ammo and/or components

Personally, I really like the 260 round, compared to 308 and other similar rounds.  My experience is limited thus far, but I really like what is has done and can do.

On a custom, GAP does great work and will absolutely take care of you before/during/after the sale.  I have owned GAP and really like their product and their customer service.

Regarding the others, I would personally avoid a piston gun in a short action at this time.  They can dramatically increase recoil impulse and can absolutely abuse shooter and gun.  I have friends that swear by POF and a  (very knowledgeable) friend that has  owned POF and swears to never own another.

If you can swing the cash, buy a GAP.  If not, Armalite's off-the-shelf 260 is a pretty nice gun (trigger not the greatest) and comes in around your budget.

Be aware that if you buy the AR10 from Armalite, the AR10(T) is the triple-hand lapped, match barrel, the AR10 is the chrome lined, not match barrel.  Chrome lined should last longer, but gives up a bit of accuracy for it (or that has been the experience of many.)

My 260 AR10, when I do my part, is a 0.5MOA gun.

The advantage of a gun like GAP is the guarantee: if it doesn't shoot well, send it back, George will make it right.  A gun from most others will not have such an iron-clad guarantee, it becomes more about luck.

If you get around to suppressing whatever you buy, Zak's Thunderbeast 30-1P is a good suppressor.
